GENERAL – An inquiry was opened into the reasons for HRNSW Compliance Officer, M Cairn-Duff being refused entry to the property of licensed trainer Ashlee Grives to conduct raceday inspections of SAVEEON (Race 7) and WAHAKA (Race 9) by two unlicensed persons at approximately 6:05pm. After taking submissions from Ashlee Grives and owner Ryan Grives Stewards ordered the withdrawal of SAVEEON and WAHAKA at 7:40pm from their respective races under Rule 15(1)(t).  The inquiry was adjourned to a date to be fixed.

RACE 1 – RAY & OLIVE MCCARTHY MEMORIAL – 1730 metres

HES SWEET – Pre-race blood sample.  Hung in upon entry to the first turn.

CLASSIC MIX UP – Caught racing three wide in the early stages of the event before working forward to the position outside the leader passing the 900 metres.

TWILIGHT BONNIE NZ – Stewards questioned driver Anthony Frisby with regards to the tactics he adopted in the early stages of the event, in addition to the overall performance of the filly which tired over the concluding stages to finish in tenth placing beaten 63 metres.  Mr Frisby advised Stewards that he felt the filly was dropping in grade after having finished fourth at its most recent start at Dubbo and therefore wanted to be in a forward position in the early stages.  Mr Frisby further advised that he was caught wide in the early stages but was able to obtain cover and thought would be able to work his way forward to the chair however felt the filly was sluggish and was unable to work forward to the position outside the leader. A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities.  After considering the explanation provided by Mr Frisby, in addition to the recent record of TWILIGHT BONNIE NZ, a warning was issued.

MY CRACKLING ROSIE – Shifted out under pressure in the home straight.  Post-race swab sample.

ALIBERTO NZ – Driver Luke McCarthy was reprimanded under Rule 162(1)(www)(a), in that he failed to make insufficient effort to prevent the gelding from shifting up the track in the home straight and impeding SABELLA SHANNON in the run to the finish of the event.

SABELLA SHANNON – Held up in the home straight and not fully tested.

RACE 2 – THE KNICKERBOCKER HOTEL PACE – 1730 metres

OURSWEETPOG – Over raced behind the leader.

TULHURST TERROR – Examined prior to and following the running of this event as the gelding has competed in excess of 200 race starts.  The examinations failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities.

DANCE EDITION – Post-race swab sample.

JUNGLE BABY – Caught racing wide in the early stages of the event before being restrained to the tail of the field passing the 1400 metres.  Held up in the home straight and not fully tested.

ALTA DOWNS – Pre-race blood sample. 

RACE 3 – HYNASH CONSTRUCTIONS PACE – 2260 metres

BAXTER RED – Pre-race blood sample.  Post-race swab sample.

PAS DE CHEVAL – Trainer Steve Turnbull was fined $50 under Rule 210 for the late notification of Mitch Turnbull as the driver of the mare.

MIGHTY ATOM – Slow to begin.

ALLSTARZZZ FRANKIE – Improved three wide from the 1800 metres until obtaining the position outside the leader passing the 1600 metres.

RACE 4 – ROWLEYALLA SPRINT – 1730 metres

THERES WALLY – Checked passing the 1200 metres when MY ULTIMATE CARTER raced erratically.

GOODOLBOYSANDBEER – Checked passing the 1200 metres when MY ULTIMATE CARTER raced erratically.

MIKIBEQUICK – Galloped out.  After considering the recent record of the gelding, it was placed outside the mobile barrier draw.

TITIWHA – Checked passing the 1200 metres when MY ULTIMATE CARTER raced erratically.  Post-race swab sample.

WELL SAID NUGGET – Caught racing wide in the early stages of the event before working forward to the position outside the leader passing the 1200 metres.

POPS LEGACY - Checked passing the 1200 metres when MY ULTIMATE CARTER raced erratically.  At the request of Trainer Braden Sullivan, the gelding was placed back in the mobile barrier draw for future starts.

MY ULTIMATE CARTER – Worked forward to the lead passing the 1300 metres.  Stewards questioned driver Jack Callaghan with regards to the manners of the colt which appeared to race erratically passing the 1200 metres checking TITIWHA, THERES WALLY, GOODOLBOYSANDBEER and POPS LEGACY.  Mr Callaghan advised Stewards that the colt was wearing a murphy blind on the near side and appeared to just switch off once racing to the lead of the event.  Mr Callaghan further advised that the colt was also wearing a pole for the first time and appeared to resent the addition of the gear.  After considering the recent record of the colt a warning, was issued.

ON DEADLINE NZ – Pre-race blood sample. 

RACE 5 – SHIRLEY TURNBULL MEMORIAL – 2790 metres

BALRAJ NZ – Pre-race blood sample.

WOW HES A ROCK STAR NZ – Broke after the start checking TAIPO NZ, severely checking MACH DA VINCI NZ and inconveniencing RIPP and PETES SAID SO NZ which resulted in MACH DA VINCI NZ being retired from the event. After considering the recent record of the horse, a warning was issued.

CYA ART NZ – Pre-race blood sample.  Worked forward to the lead passing the 2000 metres.  Post-race swab sample.

KENENA PROVLIMA – Pre-race blood sample.  Worked forward to the lead passing the 1300 metres.  Hung in and raced roughly rounding the final turn before breaking stride passing the 200 metres.  After considering the recent record of the gelding, a warning was issued.

SMIFFYS TERROR NZ – Pre-race blood sample. 

TAIPO NZ – Checked after the start when WOW HES A ROCK STAR NZ broke stride.  Improved three wide from the 1400 metres until obtaining the position outside the leader passing the 1200 metres.  Post-race swab sample.

MACH DA VINCI NZ – Severely checked after the start causing the near side knee boot to become wedged under the hopple strap and as a result the horse was retired from the event.  A post-race veterinary examination of the horse failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities.

RIPP – Inconvenienced after the start.

PETES SAID SO NZ – Inconvenienced after the start.

RACE 6 – LION NATHAN HRNSW GUARANTEED LADYSHIP PACE – 1730 metres

DREAMTIME NALA – Tired over the concluding stages of the event to finish in ninth placing beaten 109 metres.  Driver Amanda Turnbull reported to Stewards that the filly had sucked wind throughout the event. A post-race veterinary examination of the filly failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities.  After considering the recent record of the filly, it was stood down until the completion of one requalifying trial.

OHANA DANCER – Worked forward to the lead passing the 1000 metres.  Post-race swab sample.

THE ROGUE I AM – Caught racing wide in the early stages of the event before being restrained to the tail of the field passing the 1500 metres.

BEE OKAY – Worked forward to the lead passing the 1350 metres.

BETTING JEWEL – Pre-race blood sample.  Caught racing wide in the early stages of the event before being restrained to the tail of the field passing the 1000 metres.

EBONY ROCKS – Checked behind the tiring DREAMTIME NALA passing the 700 metres.

OLIVIA SHANNON – Out of position at the start and took no competitive part in the event despite the efforts of driver Jack Brown.  After considering the recent record of the mare, it was placed outside the mobile barrier draw and required to complete one requalifying trial.

KISSED BY A ROSE – Stewards questioned driver Nathan Turnbull with regards to the performance of the mare which tired over the concluding stages of the event to finish in eighth placing beaten 71 metres.  Mr Turnbull advised Stewards that the mare was again disappointing however he felt its performance could be attributed to the six day back up from a torrid run Bathurst and may not have recovered sufficiently.  Mr Turnbull advised Stewards that the future performances of the mare will be restricted to more country racing.

RACE 7 – LOMBA LA FE FE VASE – 1730 metres

GO GO GANOOSH – Trainer John McGuire was fined $50 under Rule 210 for the late notification of Doug Hewitt as the driver of the filly.

WORKS FOR ME NZ – Pre-race blood sample.  Worked forward to the position outside the leader passing the 1300 metres.  Post-race swab sample.

RACE 8 – TAB VENUE MODE PACE – 1730 metres

RAINBOW GAMBLER – Tightened for room passing the 1350 metres when YUM CHA was shifted down the track.

MACS A DUDE – Hung in and raced roughly passing the 600 metres before tiring over the concluding stages to finish in ninth placing beaten 67 metres.  A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities.  After considering the recent record of the gelding, a warning was issued.

CRUZ WITH ROME – Slow to begin.

TAKE OUT – Pre-race blood sample. 

YUM CHA – Driver Harrison Ross was reprimanded under Rule 163(1)(a)(iii) for shifting down the track passing the 1350 metres when not sufficiently clear of RAINBOW GAMBLER.  Post-race swab sample.

SHANNONSIDEAL – Pre-race blood sample.  Worked forward to the lead passing the 1000 metres.

SATELLITE SIMBA – Caught racing three wide in the early stages of the event before working forward to the position outside the leader passing the 900 metres.

ROLL THE SEVEN – Pre-race blood sample. 

GABBYS SPORTSTAR – Examined prior to and following the running of this event as the gelding has competed in excess of 200 race starts.  The examinations failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities.
