GENERAL
All runners engaged in Race 7 the CORDINA CHICKEN FARMS CHARIOTS OF FIRE (Group 1) were presented to the HRNSW Retention Facility prior to 12pm on Thursday 29th February 2024. All runners were subjected to Out Of Competition testing upon arrival and remained under surveillance until presentation to the race day stables prior to the race.
RACE 1 – SCHWEPPES PACE – 2300 metres
FASHION ICON – Pre-race blood sample. Placed in restricted room approaching the 200 metres when GLENLEDI ELVIS NZ was shifted wider on the track looking to obtain clear running and at a similar point MY ULTIMATE SNOWY hung in under pressure. Held up in the early stages of the home straight until gaining clear running passing the 150 metres.
ZAMBIA NZ – Pre-race blood sample. Broke under pressure passing the 250 metres. After considering the recent record of the gelding, a warning was issued.
DOUGS PLATTER – Pre-race blood sample. Driver Joshua Gallagher was reprimanded under Rule 170(1)(a) for allowing his off side foot to drop from the sulky rest over the concluding stages. Post-race swab sample.
GLENLEDI ELVIS NZ – Pre-race blood sample. Held up in the home straight before gaining clear running passing the 150 metres.
MY ULTIMATE SNOWY – Hung in under pressure passing the 250 metres placing FASHION ICON in restricted room.
SHADES OF HEAVEN – Trainer Kerryann Morris was fined $100 under Rule 210 for the late notification of herself as the driver of the gelding.
SOHO MOONRAKER – Worked forward to the lead passing the 1900 metres. Driver Michael Stanley was fined $100 under Rule 162(1)(y) for failing to adhere to the minimum sectional of 32.0 seconds for the first quarter of the event.
RACE 2 – CORDINA FOOD CO PACE – 1609 metres
BROOKLYN BRIDGE – Driver Cameron Hart was asked to exercise greater care when shifting off the leaders back passing the 400 metres causing the momentum of BRAEVIEW KELLY NZ to be halted. Post-race swab sample.
WAVE THE BILL NZ – Trainer Kerryann Morris was fined $100 under Rule 210 for the late notification of Joshua Gallagher as the driver of the gelding. Inconvenienced passing the 300 metres when PETES SAID SO NZ was checked.
PETES SAID SO NZ – Pre-race blood sample. Driver Robert Morris was asked to exercise greater care when looking to improve to the outside of the tiring BETTERZIPPIT NZ into passing the 300 metres causing PETES SAID SO NZ to be checked and inconvenience WAVE THE BILL NZ and MISSED THE TRUTH.
BETTERZIPPIT NZ – Worked forward to the lead passing the 1200 metres. Commenced to tire over the final 300 metres. Stewards questioned Seaton Grima with regards to the performance of the gelding which tired over the concluding stages of the event to finish in 8th placing beaten 20 metres. Mr Grima advised Stewards that the stable were unable to explain the disappointing performance. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities. After considering the explanation provided by Mr Grima, Stewards determined to note his comments.
LETSROCKLETSROLL – Held up in the early stages of the home straight before gaining clear running passing the 200 metres.
BRAEVIEW KELLY NZ – Pre-race blood sample. Inconvenienced passing the 400 metres when BROOKLYN BRIDGE shifted off the back of the leader BETTERZIPPIT NZ.
JAY OK – Pre-race blood sample.
MISSED THE TRUTH – Pre-race blood sample. Inconvenienced passing the 300 metres when PETES SAID SO NZ locked wheels with the tiring BETTERZIPPIT NZ causing PETES SAID SO NZ to be checked.
RACE 3 – CORDINA FARMS FACTORY OUTLET WARATAH FINAL – 1609 metres
BEER MONEY – Held up in the early stages of the home straight before gaining clear running passing the 250 metres.
WORKS FOR ME NZ – Pre-race blood sample.
SPIRIT KING – Pre-race blood sample.
JUNGLE BABY – Broke stride free of interference passing the 350 metres. After considering the recent record of the mare, a warning was issued.
PAS DE CHEVAL – Post-race swab sample.
BLAZING HOME NZ – Pre-race blood sample. Broke stride during the middle stages of the score up, inconveniencing ALWAYS THUNDER and as a result was out of position at the start. After considering the recent record of the gelding, a warning was issued.
ABSTRACT ART – Held up in the early stages of the home straight before gaining clear running passing the 150 metres.
ALWAYS THUNDER – Inconvenienced during the middle stages of the score up when BLASING HOME NZ broke stride.
APACHE WHITESOX – Pre-race blood sample.
RACE 4 – FREEDOM FARMS TOUGH MONARCH TROTTERS FFA – 2300 metres
JUNGLE EYES – Pre-race blood sample. Broke after the start. After considering the recent record of the gelding, it was placed outside the mobile barrier draw.
SCRUFFY DOOLAN – Trainer Kerryann Morris was fined $100 under Rule 210 for the late notification of Joshua Gallagher as the driver of the gelding. Held up in the early stages of the home straight before gaining clear running passing the 150 metres.
CONSTANTINOPLE – Worked forward to the lead passing the 1900 metres. Post-race swab sample.
SUNNY GEE – Trainer Kerryann Morris was fined $100 under Rule 210 for the late notification of Chloe Formosa as the driver of the gelding.
VAN SANK – Pre-race blood sample.
AFFAIRE DE COVER – Pre-race blood sample.
FUNKY MONKEY NZ – Pre-race blood sample.
RACE 5 – THE CORDINA GROUP SPRINT – 1609 metres
ROCK N ROLL DOO NZ – Pre-race blood sample. Hung out during the latter stages of the score up. Hung out after the start.
LADIES IN RED – Pre-race blood sample. Improved three wide from the 1100 metres and raced wide for the remainder of the event.
SOUTH COAST ARDEN NZ – Pre-race blood sample. Driver Gavin Fitzpatrick reported to stewards after the event the gelding had cast its near fore plate during the event. Post-race swab sample.
BEYOND DELIGHT – Pre-race blood sample. Hung in between the 600 metres and the 400 metres. Stewards questioned Driver Mark Pitt with regards to the performance of the horse which tired over the concluding stages to finish in 10th placing beaten 31 metres. Mr Pitt advised Stewards that he was very disappointed in the performance of the horse this evening given the confidence of the stable leading into the event. Mr Pitt advised that when he shifted the horse three wide rounding the final turn it failed to let down thereafter. A post-race veterinary examination of the horse failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities. After considering the explanation of Mr Pitt, Stewards determined to note his comments.

HOT AND TREACHEROUS NZ – Pre-race blood sample.
SPIRIT OF SAINT LOUIS NZ – Pre-race blood sample. Post-race swab sample.
FIRE FOX NZ – Pre-race blood sample. Broke stride during the early stages of the score up. After considering the recent record of the gelding, a warning was issued. Stewards questioned Driver Seaton Grima with regards to the performance of the gelding which tired over the concluding stages to finish in 9th placing beaten 29 metres. Mr Grima advised Stewards that he was slightly disappointed with the performance of the gelding but felt the fast tempo in the early stages of the event may have been too quick for the gelding. Mr Grima further advised that he may look to not drive the gelding so aggressively in similar graded events in the future. A post-race veterinary examination of the FIRE FOX NZ failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities. After considering the explanation provided by Mr Grima, Stewards determined to note his comments.

SPEAK THE TRUTH - Pre-race blood sample. Caught racing wide in the early stages of the event before working forward to the position outside the leader passing the 1000 metres. Post-race swab sample.
RACE 6 – ALLIED EXPRESS SPRINT – 1609 metres
MACH DAN – Pre-race blood sample. Stewards questioned Driver Mark Pitt with regards to the performance of the gelding which tired over the concluding stages to finish in 9th placing beaten 20 metres. Mr Pitt advised Stewards he was disappointed with the performance of the gelding however felt the first early tempo may have contributed to the performance of the gelding this evening. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities. After considering the explanation provided by Mr Pitt, Stewards determined to note his comments.

LINE UP NZ – Pre-race blood sample. Held up in the early stages of the home straight before gaining clear running passing the 150 metres. Raced roughly under pressure. A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding, failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities.
KANENA PROVLIMA – Pre-race blood sample.
EXPENSIVE EGO – Pre-race blood sample. Improved three wide from the 1100 metres until obtaining the position outside the leader passing the 900 metres.

MACH DA VINCI NZ – Pre-race blood sample. Improved three wide from the 1200 metres until obtaining the position outside the leader passing the 1000 metres. Stewards questioned Driver Jack Callaghan with regards to the performance of the horse which tired over the concluding stages to finish in 10th placing beaten 24 metres. Mr Callaghan advised Stewards that he was a little disappointed with the performance of the horse however felt the performance could be attributed to the run experienced by the horse being driven forward in a fast run event. A post-race veterinary examination of the horse failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities. After considering the explanation provided by Mr Callaghan, Stewards determined to note his comments.
HI MYNAMEISJEFF NZ - Pre-race blood sample. Caught racing three wide in the early stages of the event before working forward to the position outside the leader passing the 1100 metres. Post-race swab sample.
RACE 7 – CORDINA CHICKEN FARMS CHARIOTS OF FIRE (GROUP 1) – 1609 metres
SOONER THE BETTOR NZ – Over raced behind the leader through the middle stages of the event. Post-race swab sample.
DONT STOP DREAMING NZ – Stewards questioned Driver Mark Purdon with regards to the performance of the horse which finished in 6th placing beaten 7 metres. Mr Purdon advised Stewards he was a little disappointed with the horse which appeared to travel well throughout the event but failed to really let down over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination of the horse failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities. After considering the explanation provided by Mr Purdon, Stewards determined to note his comments. Driver Mark Purdon pleaded guilty to a charge under Rule 159B(1)(a) for failing to wear an approved vest during the event. After considering the recent record of Mr Purdon, in addition to the Group 1 status of the event, he was fined $800.
BETTER BE THE BEST – Improved three wide from the 1100 metres until obtaining the position outside the leader passing the 800 metres.

ROCKNROLL HAMMER NZ – Held up in the early stages of the home straight before gaining clear running passing the 200 metres.
RACE 8 – NSW DERBY HEAT 1 – ST JOHNS PARK BOWLING CLUB – 2400 METRES
NATHAN STREET – Broke after the start. After taking evidence from Driver Jack Trainor, which outlined that the hopple shortener cord had become wrapped around the horses’ off side hind leg Stewards determined to take no further action.
I DIDNT KNOW THAT NZ – Pre-race blood sample.
MINOS NZ – Broke stride during the middle stages of the score up checking I DIDNT KNOW THAT NZ and NATHAN STREET causing a false start to be declared. Driver Robert Morris pleaded guilty to a charge under Rule 154(1) for failing to take immediate action to restrain his runner to the correct gait without causing interference to any other runners. After considering the recent record of Mr Morris, in addition to the status of the event, he was fined $1000.

SPORTS NARRATOR – Pre-race blood sample. An inquiry into the reasons for SPORTS NARRATOR being checked after the start was adjourned to a date to be fixed.
ROYAL CRUISER – Pre-race blood sample. An inquiry into the reasons for ROYAL CRUISER being checked and breaking stride after the start was adjourned to a date to be fixed.
TIGER PRINCE - An inquiry into the reasons for the gelding being checked after the start was adjourned to a date to be fixed.
RACE 9 – NSW DERBT HEAT 2 – TUNCURRY BEACH BOWLING CLUB – 2400 metres
MR BONDI NZ – Galloped out. After considering the recent record of the gelding, a warning was issued.
MIKI BE GOOD - Galloped out. After considering the recent record of the gelding, it was placed outside the mobile barrier draw. Inconvenienced passing the 700 metres when HES FROM HEAVEN NZ broke stride.
IN EXCESS NZ – Pre-race blood sample.
HES FROM HEAVEN – Broke after the start. After considering the recent record of the gelding, a warning was issued. Broke stride free of interference passing the 600 metres inconveniencing MIKI BE GOOD. After considering the recent record of the gelding, a warning was issued.

THE GREEK GENERAL – Pre-race blood sample. Hung out abruptly passing the 900 metres. After considering the recent record of the gelding, a warning was issued.

RACE 10 – NSW DERBY HEAT 3 – BALMAIN BOWLING CLUB – 2400 metres
FLIPTOP BOTTLESHOP – Pre-race blood sample.
RAVISHING SLOY – Pre-race blood sample. Driver Luke McCarthy pleaded guilty to a charge under Rule 156(2)(a), in that he applied the whip to the gelding over the concluding stages of the event in a manner which was not considered to be a wrist only flicking motion. After considering the recent record of Mr McCarthy, he was fined $200. Post-race swab sample.
HARRYS DEAL NZ – Galloped out. After considering the recent record of the gelding, it was placed outside the mobile barrier draw.
