SHES SOME LEXY – Pre-race blood.  Leaving the 700 metres hung out and broke stride.  Considering the filly’s recent record SHES SOME LEXY will be sent for a spell and as such is stood down for a period of 28 days and requalify on two occasion prior to racing again.

RACE 2 – ROBERT & ROSEMARY LEE MEMORIAL – 1660 metres

TOOLITTLETOOLATE – Tightened for racing room at the 1400 metres when ROSE OF JULIANA has shifted down without sufficient clearance.  Driver O Frisby was queried on her driving tactics over the final 700 metres where there may have been an opportunity to shift wider at the 600 metres when hampered by ROSE OF JULIANA who was yielding ground. Ms Frisby stated with the geldings exposed form it wouldn`t be able to make a move that far from home and hadn`t lost much ground prior to shifting around ROSE OF JULIANA at the 500 metres. Ms Frisby further added that she elected to shift back to the peg line as racing three wide over the final 300 metres would have been detrimental to his performance. Although being held up momentarily around the home turn the gelding was fully tested in the run to the finish.

ROSE OF JULIANA – Pre-race blood.  Driver A Clancy was issued a reprimand under rule 163(1)(a)(iii) in that when leaving the 1400 metres has shifted his runner down without sufficient clearance of TOOLITTLETOOLATE  as a result that runner was tightened for racing room.  Driver A Clancy was queried on the tactics adopted and the mare’s overall performance when tiring over the final 400 metres finishing in tenth and last position beaten 36.5 metres. He stated from a good barrier draw it was the intentions to race in a forward position and was able to obtain cover around the 1400 metres were the mare had a good run until failing to respond when placed under pressure at the 400 metres. He further added that the mare has been disappointing in her two runs this time in and would look to have the mare checked over in the coming days .

TRIOLI – Worked forward to obtain the lead at the 1200 metres.

KRAFTY BOY – Worked forward three wide from the 1100 metres until obtaining the position outside the lead at the 800 metres.  Post-race swab.

JOHN RICHARD – Raced three wide for the final 800 metres without cover.

RACE 3 – THE TAB APP LOCAL PACE – 2040 metres

BABYFACE QUINCE – Tired over the final 500 metres to finish in tenth and last position beaten 96.4 metres.  Trainer/driver D Rusten stated when restraining in the early stages the mare became disinterested in racing and failed to respond over the final stages.  Connections were advised the mare would be stood down for one requalifying trial.

MODERN SHEEN – Post-race swab.

AVENTINE HILL – Tired over the final 400 metres to finish in ninth position beaten 68.1 metres.  Driver B Medlyn could give no reasonable explanation for the poor performance as the mare had an economical run throughout the race and failed to respond over the final 400 metres.  Connections were advised the mare would be stood down for one requalifying trial.

RACE 4 – THANK YOU FORBES SHIRE COUNCIL PACE – 2040 metres

MAJOR JAMANE – Pre-race blood.  Driver N Turnbull was queried on his tactics adopted in particular surrendering the lead to LARA TIARA at the 900 metres when he had resisted a challenge for the lead from THE MISSING SOCK NZ in the early stages of the race. He stated he drove the gelding the same as last start at Dubbo 19 April 2024 where he handed up to LARA TIARA in the middle stages. When challenged by THE MISSING SOCK he believed on that runners recent form that it would not be suitable to take cover from. When challenged again at the 1300 metres by LARA TIARA he handed up as done previously believing it would take him into the race. Although being hampered by LARA TIARA at the 300 metres his runner was under pressure and was disappointing over the concluding stages.

THE MISSING SOCK NZ – Post-race swab.

ZU HOFFEN – Had a tendency to hang in after the start was affected.  Broke stride at the 800 metres.  A warning was issued.

LARA TIARA – Driver J Turnbull was queried on the tactics adopted and the overall performance of the mare in particular when making a challenge for the lead at the 1800 metres was unable to do so when THE MISSING SOCK NZ improved to his inside restraining to take cover from that runner from the 1700 metres and then began challenging for that position at the 1300 metres where he obtained the lead at the1200 metres. He stated the mare is only new to the stable and when working forward to lead at Dubbo 19 April 2024 she raced well. Although being in the one out one back position he elected to work forward to obtain the lead when doing so THE MISSING SOCK improved to his inside and immediately too cover of that runner, with the pace seemingly coming out of the race he again challenged for the lead which he was able to obtain at the 1200 metres. He further added that the mare was disappointing over the final 300 metres believing the longer race distance may have contributed to the performance. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

RACE 5 – FORBES LIVESTOCK AGENCY & CO AND HELLOWORLD TRAVEL FORBES PUD WOODS MEMORIAL – 2040 metres

PREACHER QUINCE – Checked from the 800 metres until the 500 metres when unable to clear KUDOS MASON who was yielding ground quickly.

GIRL JUST FLY – Checked from the 800 metres until the 500 metres when unable to clear KUDOS MASON who was yielding ground quickly.

SPRINGFIELD DESIRE – Broke stride shortly after the start was affected.  A warning was issued.

KUDOS MASON – Broke stride shortly after the start was affected.  A warning was issued.  driver J Reynolds was queried on the overall performance and the tactics adopted throughout the event where the gelding worked forward to obtain the lead at the 1500 metres and then became under pressure shortly thereafter to tire out of the event to finish in tenth and last position beaten 246.8 metres. Mr Reynolds stated although breaking shortly after the start the gelding lost minimal ground finding himself racing without cover. When ERIC THE KICKER obtained the lead he thought that runner was looking around and he would be able to catch him napping and obtain the lead. When leading the gelding would not settle, passing the 1200 metres when ERIC THE KICKER challenged for the lead his runner was travelling well but when crossed at the 900 metres KUDOS MASON was immediately under pressure stopping quickly to finish tailed off. Mr Reynolds added the geldings tongue tie was broken following the race and thought the gelding had chocked down.  A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

CRACKER MISS – Inconvenienced shortly after the start when KUDOS MASON had shifted down after breaking stride.

ERIC THE KICKER – Worked forward to obtain the lead at the 1700 metre and then was unable to hold the lead when challenged by KUDOS MASON at the 1500 metres.  Post-race swab.

LIMOUSINE CHEEKY – Driver M Hewitt could give no reasonable explanation for the mare’s poor performance where she tired over the final 400 metres to finish in tenth and last position beaten 92.5 metres.  Connections were advised the mare would be stood down for one requalifying trial.

DONEGAL LUTHER NZ- Post-race swab.

ODINS BLACK CROWS – Pre-race blood.  Driver N Townsend was queried on the gelding’s overall performance where it tired over the final 300 metres to finish in tenth and last position beaten 53.9 metres.  He stated the gelding was significantly up in class contributing to the overall performance.

MAN MOUNTAIN – Driver W Judd was issued a reprimand under rule 163(1)(a)(iii) in that when negotiating the first turn has shifted his runner down the track when insufficiently clear of KINGSTON SHANNON and as a result that runner was tightened and lost its racing position.  Withstood protest off fifth placed runner KINGSTON SHANNON.

KINGSTON SHANNON – Prior to all clear driver O Frisby advised Stewards that herself and trainer M Barnes wish to view the available race day footage to ascertain if they had any grounds of objection when being tightened negotiating the first turn.  After viewing the available footage trainer M Barnes advised Stewards, she wished to lodge an objection against third place getter MAN MOUNTAIN alleging interference on the first turn.  After taking oral evidence from drivers O Frisby and W Judd (MAN MOUNTAIN) and viewing the available race day footage Stewards were of the belief although KINGSTON SHANNON being tightened on the first turn the margin of 3.3 metres between both runners, the distance from the finish line and the way both runners finished the race off Stewards could not be comfortably satisfied that if this incident had not occurred that KINGSTON SHANNON would have finished in advance of MAN MOUNTAIN and as such the protest was dismissed and all clear was given on the judge’s numbers of 1, 10, 3 and 9.  Held up for clear racing room in the run to the finish and not fully tested.
