RACE 4 – SANDRA SMITH MEMORIAL PACE – 1770 metres

JAMBEROO ARK – Driver Peter Doody was questioned in relation to the driving tactics and overall performance of JAMBEROO ARK and in particular the reasons for allowing his drive to contribute to fast quarters during the early and middle stages of the event. Mr Doody explained due to drawing a favourable barrier he was of the opinion to drive the horse out in an attempt to lead to keep runners drawn to his outside wider. Mr Doody added that JAMBEROO ARK is a noted leader when drawn to do so and was concerned that if crossed would over-race and prove difficult to drive due to it over-racing. Mr Doody explained that in recent starts there was evidence that when crossed the horse proved difficult to drive and would over-race when gaining cover. Mr Doody further added that whilst he didn’t drive JAMBEROO ARK along with vigour he did allow the horse to improve to the inside of DORRISTOPAYTHEBILL at the 1200m due to JAMEROO ARK having a tendency to over-race after being challenged and was confident that his drive would be competitive, as that is the way the horse has been driven of previous times and performed well as evidenced at Wagga on 6 September 2024 where he made significant use of JAMBEROO ARK when challenging for the lead in a first quarter of 26.8 seconds where despite this the gelding finished 3rd beaten only half a metre. Mr Doody however conceded that the first quarter (27.5) and second quarter (29.3) were quick and may have been a telling factor on the overall performance at the end of the event. Stewards issued Mr Doody with a reprimand for a lack of judgement and advised him that considering the use made of JAMBEROO ARK up until the 1200 metres he erred by maintaining the lead when challenged again by DORRISTOPAYTHEBILL. In not taking greater action against Mr Doody Stewards were satisfied the racing manners of JAMBEROO ARK contributed to his decision making, however Stewards firmly advised Mr Doody that he must attempt to rectify the racing manners of his runner as Stewards may not afford him such leniency moving forward. Stewards further ordered that JAMBEROO ARK be stood down from racing until the completion of one satisfactory trial. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities that may have contributed to the performance.

MORESCO – Driver Declan Murphy was issued with a reprimand for causing interference after directing his drive into a three wide position when not sufficiently clear of WHERE BACK at the winning post with one lap to travel. This movement resulted in WHERE BACK contacting the outside sulky wheel of MORESCO and pacing roughly for a short distance. In not taking further action the panel was mindful that Mr Murphy had directed his drive outwards simultaneous to the move of WHERE BACK, however MORESCO was slow to shift wider when directed to do so. MORESCO at the same time contacted the outside sulky wheel of BETTING RANGER resulting in MORESCO being slow to shift wider. Checked when racing three wide leaving the 800m when KEEPERS IDEAL NZ commenced to give ground.

BETTING RANGER – Sulky contacted approaching the winning post with one lap to travel. Shifted out racing down the back straight on the final occasion and then shifted in a short time later, tightening the racing room of MY COURTELL. Driver Adam Bellach was issued with a reprimand for causing interference at this stage.

KEEPERS IDEAL NZ – Driver Sebastian Piltz explained that he was instructed by Trainer Tony Bertwistle to drive the gelding forward after the start in an attempt to gain a forward position. Mr Piltz added that after being caught wide with cover following DORRISTOPAYTHEBILL racing up to the 1200m he was of the opinion that runner was racing in advance of the leader JAMBEROO ARK and would progress to the lead and therefore elected to improve forward, however shortly after it appeared apparent that JAMBEROO ARK was holding the lead therefore making DORRISTOPAYTHEBILL race without cover.  Mr Piltz advised that there was no position closer to the maker peg line in the two wide line and in assessing the stage of the race he allowed KEEPERS IDEAL NZ to progress forward and race outside DORRISTOPAYTHEBILL. KEEPERS IDEAL NZ then commenced to give ground leaving the winning post with one lap to travel before tiring to be beaten 67m. Stewards issued Mr Piltz a reprimand for his lack of judgement between the 1200m and 1000m where Stewards advised him that it was unacceptable after being caught three wide to improve his position and challenge for the lead when it was more than reasonable that the runners to his inside would not surrender at that stage of the race. In not taking more severe action against Mr Piltz Stewards took into account his inexperience. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities that would contribute to the performance.

MY COURTELL – Tightened for racing room leaving the back straight on the final occasion when BETTING RANGER shifted inwards.

WHERE BACK – Pre-race sample. Contacted the outside sulky wheel of MORESCO and paced roughly approaching the winning post with one to travel. Checked when KEEPERS IDEAL NZ commenced to give ground leaving the front straight with one lap to travel. Tired to be beaten 57m with a post-race veterinary examination revealing a higher than normal respiratory heart rate. Acting upon veterinary advice the mare was stood down until the completion of a satisfactory veterinary clearance.

THE TALK – Post-race swab.

RACE 5 – MIA (ACT) SADDLERY PACE – 2170 metres

General – The start of this race was delayed due to a tractor malfunction in between races when conducting maintenance to the track surface. The All Clear was delayed at the request of Driver Scott Osmond (5th placegetter – Mach Nine) to view the official photo finish. After doing so Stewards were satisfied there was a margin between the 4th and 5th placegetters and All Clear was announced.

SASSY MIA – Pre-race sample.

TUFFASOLDBOOTS – Post-race sample. Driver Harrison Ross explained that he elected to surrender the lead to TROUBLE IN HEAVEN approaching the 1700m due to the early work done to initially hold the lead and felt that TROUBLE IN HEAVEN was a suitable horse to follow following its race start at Wagga 1 November 2024, where it was able to win. Mr Ross added that TUFFASOLDBOOTS was a 2 year old racing older horses and in his opinion would benefit from following a favourable runner.  The comments of Mr Ross were recorded.

TROUBLE IN HEAVEN – (7th/8m/ $1.95) Driver James Locke contributed the performance of the filly to the quick back up from Wagga on 1 November 2024. Mr Locke explained that the racing manners of TROUBLE IN HEAVEN when having a tendency to over-race may have contributed to the filly failing to run on over the concluding stages. Mr Locke also added that this was the first occasion that TROUBLE IN HEAVEN had led when racing over the 2100m.

RACE 6 –MITCHELL LAWN MOWER CENTRE PACE – 1770 metres

MANKIND – Out of position at the start and will continue to be placed outside the mobile barrier draw.

RACE 8 – ACT TYREPOWER TROTTERS MOBILE – 1770 metres

TROT TO CHEVRON NZ – Tightened and galloped racing into the first turn when racing to the inside of PHARISEE when that runner galloped. A warning was issued against the racing manners of the gelding. It was also noted that TROT TO CHEVRON NZ cast a right fore plate when galloping.

PHARISEE – Pre-race sample. Hung in racing into the first turn and galloped a short distance later. PHARISEE then continued to gallop before being assisted and captured by the Clerk Of Course and retired from the event. Connections were advised that PHARISEE would be stood down until the completion of one satisfactory trial.

ORLANDO STORM – Galloped under pressure in the home straight on the final occasion and a warning was issued.
