GREY CADILLAC – Driver Robert Morris was questioned regarding the tactics adopted on the gelding during the middle stages in particular the reasons for GREY CADILLAC being positioned 3 wide from the 1200 metres onwards. Mr Morris explained he was mindful that FIFTYSHADES CRESCO and AGIFTFROMTHEANGELS were positioned 3 wide for an extended distance during the early stages and felt upon those runners obtaining a forward position that should he progress forward, mindful of the use that had already been made of those two runners, they would likely surrender the position outside the leader to GREY CADILLAC. Mr Morris further added that progressing forward at the 1800 metres he felt that it was in the best interest of GREY CADILLAC to do so given the gelding’s extended racing pattern, however upon improving to the outside of AGIFTFROMTHEANGELS during the middle stages it became apparent that GREY CADILLAC would not be securing the desired position. Mr Morris further added that he did contemplate restraining GREY CADILLAC to the rear of the field however he did not feel that GREY CADILLAC was capable of being restrained to the rear of the field and then improving again during the latter stages and elected to remain 3 wide not applying pressure to the runners to his inside. Mr Morris further added GREY CADILLAC travelled well passing the 1000 metres, however shortly after passing the 800 metres commenced to hang in as runners improved and shifted out to his inside passing the 600 metres which made it increasingly difficult for GREY CADILLAC to maintain its position. Upon consideration of the explanation tendered by Mr Morris Stewards did not feel the tactics adopted in the circumstances were entirely unreasonable, noting the extended racing pattern of GREY CADILLAC, and took the matter no further.

SCANDALIZING – Checked approaching the 1800 metres as a result of SAILOR MADE breaking gait and the pace easing. Driver Jim Douglass was questioned regarding the tactics adopted on the gelding in particular his decision to not improve to the outside of LOCKITINEDDY shortly after passing the 300 metres. Mr Douglass explained SCANDALIZING had been placed under pressure and driven with vigour passing the 400 metres and he observed Cameron Hart, the driver of HELENS BOY, commence to shift out to the inside of LOCKITINEDDY who he was following and felt that he would be best served improving to the inside of HELENS BOY and saving ground as opposed to being forced 4 wide should he improve to the outside of LOCKITINEDDY. Mr Douglass further added as he commenced to direct SCANDALIZING inwards to obtain this position, HELENS BOY and LOCKITINEDDY jostled and conseiquently HELENS BOY was unsuccessful in being able to ease LOCKITINEDDY wider and as a consequence SCANDALIZING was held up during the early part of the home straight. Mr Douglass further added he attempted to obtain a clear run to the inside of HELENS BOY in the early part of the home straight but was unsuccessful in doing so and then commenced to direct SCANDALIZING out however did not fully secure clear running. Upon consideration of the matter, Stewards did not feel the tactics adopted by Mr Douglass in the circumstances were entirely unreasonably and took the matter no further.
