Driver O Frisby was given the opportunity to comment on the below market expectations performance of the gelding, she stated that she entered the race confident of a forward showing given its recent form, however feels that it does race best when able to obtain a position with cover. She added after the start she had an option of taking up a position four back on the pegs, which she felt was not going to be a good position given the runners she would be following in that position, so elected to remain leading the running line in the hope of getting cover during the run. She further added that when POPS LEGACY improved three wide, it unfortunately kept improving to the lead leaving her facing the breeze, which did not suit the gelding, particularly over the longer distance of tonight’s race.

She added that they were then left facing the breeze in the running line, which did not suit the gelding. Trainer S Turnbull confirmed the instructions and added that he was disappointed with the gelding’s run. GET UP BETTY – Contacted the sulky wheel of KATLAS DREAM approaching the finish line and broke gait. She added that she felt it was down in class tonight and was hopeful of an improved showing and when the pace eased, she improved three wide, however the mare didn’t travel as well as it has in the past and took more effort to get to the position outside the leader than she anticipated.
