Mr Bigeni explained to Stewards that he was surprised with how well the mare began at the start and he elected to hold SHE WHO DARES who challenged for the lead in the early stages, however when that runner commenced to over race he felt it was in his runner’s best interest to surrender the lead at that point of the event. Mr Bigeni explained that he felt that the pace of the event in the early stages, in addition to the longer distance of tonight’s event and the mare being first up from a spell may have contributed to the poor performance. A post-race veterinary examination of the mare failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities. After considering the recent record of PLAY SOUTHERNLAND, it was stood down until the completion of one requalifying trial.

SHE WHO DARES – Worked forward to the lead passing the 1600 metres. Miss Osmond advised Stewards that she was disappointed with the performance of the mare however explained that it commenced to contact its own sulky and over race in the early stages of the event which she felt contributed to the performance this evening.    Stewards questioned trainer Lachlan Prothero who advised he was similarly disappointed with the performance tonight and would look to change the gear on the mare moving forward. A post-race veterinary examination of the mare failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities.  After considering the recent record of the mare, it was stood down until the completion of one requalifying trial.

SUGAR RUSH – Worked forward to the lead passing the 1400 metres.  Stewards questioned driver Joshua Gallagher with regards to the performance of the filly which tired over the concluding stages.
