COUNTRY MAJOR - After being driven urgently after the start was unable to obtain the lead and when being restrained pulled very hard for some distance in the early stages.

FROZEN JEWEL - When questioned in relation to the tactics adopted after the start and in the early stages, driver C Formosa explained that she had been instructed to lead if possible, however FROZEN JEWEL failed to muster sufficient speed to achieve this and was trapped wide rounding the turn after the start and at the entrance to the back straight on the first occasion. She said that despite this, she persevered in an attempt to obtain the lead however she was unable to cross COUNTRY MAJOR which was over racing and when attempting to obtain cover near the 1000 metres she was obliged to check her drive when crowded by JUST TOMMY which shifted in in search of cover at that time, when not quite clear. Subsequently S Ison the trainer/driver of JUST TOMMY was reprimanded under rule 163(1)(a)(iii) for shifting ground when insufficiently clear.

RACE 6 – HAZELLS FARM & FERTILIZER SERVICES PACE – 1609 METRES

CAPITALLEE - Pre-race blood sample.

REDS GOOD TO GO - When questioned in relation to the performance trainer/driver Mr T Ison explained, that he drove with the intent to lead after the start however was caught wide and unable to cross. He said that because the tempo was moderate, he elected to continue to drive forward and race outside the lead where the gelding travelled relatively well until being placed under pressure near the 500m and from that point it was unresponsive and ran to the finish in a disappointing manner. A Post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormality. Mr Ison said that the gelding’s recovery would be monitored in the ensuing days and if satisfactory, it would be nominated to race at this venue again on 22/5/24 where if circumstances permitted it would be driven as it was today.

BEE SEVENTEEN - Passed required pre- and post-race veterinary examination.

ADRENALINE RUSH - Trainer/driver Mr A Varga pleaded guilty to charge under rule 156(2)(a), stating that when he applied the whip in the home straight, he did so in a manner that exceeded a wrist only flicking motion. Mr Varga was fined $200.
