RACE 1 – STUART VALENTINE FOR BLOODSTOCK INSURANCE 3YO PACE – 1730 metres
TAKE HIS PLACE – ($2.90) Pre-race swab. Driver Jason Turnbull was queried into the overall performance of the gelding which finished in 10th and last position beaten 18.6m. Mr Turnbull advised TAKE HIS PLACE to be slightly disappointing and contributed the performance to a combination of the gelding failing to pace fluently when forced wider on the track approaching the 400m at which point he did not want to urge the gelding forward due to TAKE HIS PLACE poor history of breaking gait & TAKE HIS PLACE being first up since 11th December 2024 as the gelding only had two (2) relatively easy trials at which point the gelding did break gait in its trial on 12th May 2025. Mr Turnbull added TAKE HIS PLACE was in need of the performance & would derive benefit from the event. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Veered outward approaching the 900m checking R K FINN NZ, SIREN SEA & BUDDY BRILLIANCE. SAVEEON was pulled up a short distance latter due to safety concerns by its driver Phoebe Betts. Trainer/driver Phoebe Betts was at a loss to explain the poor racing tractability of SAVEEON. Ms Betts was advised SAVEEON will now be stood down from racing for a period of fourteen (14) days & trialling to the satisfaction of stewards on two (2) occasions. In taking this action stewards were mindful of the mare poor racing manners when displaying similar racing manners two (2) starts prior. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

General: Stewards considered a protest lodged by Tom Pay, the driver of the 2nd placed YA RACIN ARLO against the 1st placed WITHDISTINCTION (Cameron Hart) with the grounds of the protest being interference inside the final 200m. On review Stewards found that upon entering the home straight, WITHDISTINCTION shifted up the track approaching the 120m when YA RACIN ARLO was racing to its outside which had hung inwards under pressure resulting in both runners sulky wheels making contact however both runners were corrected by their drivers & were able to be driven fully out to the finish without any further contact between both runners. Although acknowledging the initially shift from WITHDISTINCTION & the simultaneous movement of YA RACIN ARLO at the point contact of sulky wheels Stewards were unable to find that such interference had an effect as to the finishing positions noting the manner that both runners found the line and the half head margin and therefore the protest was dismissed and all-clear announced on the judge’s numbers.
LIVE VANCE – Pre-race swab. Declared a late scratching at 5pm by Order of Stewards due to the mare not being presented on course by the prescribed timeframe in accordance with the HRNSW Elevated TCO2 policy. Stewards took initial evidence from Trainer Jason Vella into the reasons for LIVE VANCE not being presented in the required timeframe. This matter has been adjourned to Bathurst 18th June 2025.
REVEILLE JET – Checked & broke gait and shifted outwards approaching the 400m when PHANTOM STAR commenced to yield ground rapidly. Checking multiple runners.
PHANTOM STAR – Raced fiercely throughout the event despite the driver’s efforts. Yielded ground rapidly approaching the 400m checking REVEILLE JET which was trailing prior to finishing in 7th position beaten 116.7m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have superficial lacerations to the left lip & the gelding to be making an abnormal respiratory noise. PHANTOM STAR will now be stood down from racing for a period of ten (10) days an endoscopic examination plus a veterinary certificate of fitness & trialling to the satisfaction of stewards on one (1) occasion.
