IM NO STRANGER – Trainer Michael Hawke advised Stewards post the completion of the event and prior to the declaration of All Clear that he wished to view the run to the finish with a view to lodging a protest against the second placed runner MYRAS MINT. Having been afforded the opportunity to review the films, Mr Hawke advised Stewards he intended to lodge a protest against MYRAS MINT alleging interference passing the 150 metres. After taking evidence from Harrison Ross and Michael Hawke, the driver and trainer of IM NO STRANGER, in addition to Will Rixon the driver of MYRAS MINT it was established that upon entry to the home straight MYRAS MINT had drifted up the track making a run available to its inside and approaching the 150 metres IM NO STRANGER which was trailing MYRAS MINT commenced to be shifted down the track by Harrison Ross looking to improve to the inside of MYRAS MINT, however Mr Rixon allowed his runner to shift down the track resulting in IM NO STRANGER being held up in the early stages of the home straight before shifting wider around that runner and making ground on MYRAS MINT in the run to the finish. When assessing the shift of Will Rixon to bring MYRAS MINT back down the track, Stewards were satisfied that MYRAS MINT was sufficiently clear of IM NO STRANGER at that point of the event and IM NO STRANGER had therefore not yet established a run to the inside of MYRAS MINT and for those reasons believed there was no interference suffered by IM NO STRANGER and it was simply held up at that stage of the event. The protest was subsequently dismissed and All Clear given on the judge’s numbers of 5 – 4 – 3 – 6. Post-race swab sample.
