LOOKIN GOOD MARGIE – Raced three wide in the early stages before crossing to the position outside of the leader near the 1300 metres.  Gave ground over the concluding stages.

DILETTO – Unable to secure clear running at any stage in the home straight and was not fully tested.

MIZZZ ADELE – Near the 850 metres received contact to the rear of the sulky from ED MENDES as a result of the tempo easing.  Racing between the 700 metres and 600 metres received further contact to the off side wheel from ED MENDES and sustained a flat tyre.

ED MENDES – Near the 850 metres raced up onto the back of MIZZZ ADELE when the pace eased.  Leaving the 700 metres ED MENDES commenced to over race significantly resulting in the gelding striking the off side wheel of MIZZZ ADELE on multiple occasions.  Driver H Rixon was advised to continue to drive that displays due care and the appropriate restraint. ED MENDES will be placed on its last chance to race truly for overracing.

RACE 2 – WEDNESDAY MARKETS @ PENRITH SHOWGROUND PACE – 1720 metres

TIGER LOLA – Approaching the 300 metres had to be checked away from EYEKNOW which broke gait.

MCARDOM – Hung out during the score up and locked wheels with EYEKNOW subsequently a false start was declared.  A warning was issued.  Raced three wide in the early stages before crossing to the position outside of the leader near the 1300 metres.  Leaving the 500 metres shifted out affording a run to the inside. Then near the 400 metres, as MCARDOM negotiated the turn it commenced to shift in at the same time EYEKNOW had shifted in and was looking to improve to the inside of MCARDOM resulting in contact to the rear of the near side sulky wheel of MCARDOM.

EYEKNOW – Pre-race blood samples were obtained.  Caught wide in the early stages subsequently the mare commenced to over race resulting in EYEKNOW improving to the position outside of the leader near the 900 metres.  Leaving the 400 metres shifted in to obtain a run to the inside of MCARDOM which had shifted out. However, as EYEKNOW progressed toward the run MCARDOM shifted back in and EYEKNOW despite being restrained by driver J Farrugia, raced inside the line of marker pegs and then made contact to the near side wheel of MCARDOM. Consequently, EYEKNOW was checked and broke gait.  At a subsequent inquiry upon considering all available evidence, no one driver was found to be blameworthy however driver J Farrugia was advised to ensure that he drives with care and is mindful of runners that do give themselves room to negotiate turns and can shift in particularly on smaller circumference tracks.

GREY CADILLAC – When questioned regarding the tactics employed on GREY CADILLAC driver C Geary explained that he had been instructed by trainer T Williams to drive the gelding with cover whether that be in the running line or along the marker pegs.  C Geary said that after the start he assessed that it would be in his best interests to race four back along the marker pegs behind several runners that he expected to be in the finish. He was concerned that if he was in the running line and several lengths further back, it would be to difficult to make up ground over the concluding stages.  C Geary stated that the gelding travelled well however near the 500 metres was under pressure when the tempo increased significantly.  He added that approaching the 200 metres he was held up for clear running by DESIDERIO which was giving ground which gave the impression that GREY CADILLAC was finishing the race off well.  Trainer T Williams confirmed the instructions and added that GREY CADILLAC is better suited over the longer 2125 metre distance.  He said that from an awkward draw and given the quality of tonight’s opposition and their respective racing patterns he did not believe it would be in the best interests of GREY CADILLAC to be driven aggressively from the start.  T Williams’ explanation was noted.
