He said that if this resulted in the gelding racing without cover it would not be detrimental to its chances as this had been its most consistent style of racing in the past. He said that when trapped wide rounding the turn after the start he drove forward in an attempt to cross BETTOR CHEER, however that runner resisted his initial challenge which left him 3 wide. He stated that despite this SPUNKYS GOTSECRETS was travelling strongly and he again attempted to cross BETTOR CHEER approaching the winning post with a lap remaining, which again was unsuccessful and at this time if he were to restrain to a covered position he would be forced to concede too much ground and given that his drive was still travelling strongly, he elected to remain wide and allow it to travel without urging. He further stated that when placed under pressure inside the 400m he gained a strong response, and the gelding ran to the finish well. He added that should he drive SPUNKYS GOTSECRETS in future, he would again attempt to race in a forward position without necessarily attempting to obtain cover.
