HES CHIMING – Had a tendency to hang out under pressure in the home straight on the final occasion.  Post-race swab.  The gelding was claimed.

CHEER FOR MITCH NZ – Broke in the early stages of the score up.  A warning was issued.  Passing the 700 metres when yielding ground his outside sulky wheel was contacted resulting in a flat tyre.  Trainer/driver M Turnbull was queried on his decision to challenged for the lead between the 1200 metres and 100 metres, also the overall performance of the gelding who tired over the 700 metres to finish in ninth and last position beaten 164.7 metres.  He stated when approaching the 1200 metres when racing outside HES CHIMING he believed that runner did not appear to be race genuinely and was of the opinion that with a short challenge he maybe able to obtain the lead which would be more suitable for his runner. When making the challenge he  was unable to muster the required speed to cross HES CHIMING and as a result restrained his gelding at the 1000 metres, Passing the 700 metres CHEER FOR MITCH NZ began to tire when placed under pressure.  Considering the evidence provided by Mr Turnbull and viewing the available footage Stewards believed that he had erred when challenging for the lead when it appeared that position not to be available and advised him to drive in a manner that is not a concern to Stewards in future.  A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.  Connections were advised the gelding will be required to requalifying on one occasion.

RACE 6 – HRNSW GUARANTEED 2YO PACE – 1730 metres

CHEVAL TIGER – Driver J Coney was queried on his tactics between the 1500 and 1300 metres where he allowed DELIGHTFUL DREAM to obtain the position behind the leader which appeared to be his rightful run.  He stated in the previous run the filly was driven hard for the lead and was mindful of how she finished the race off. When leaving the 1500 metres DELIGHTFUL DREAM was racing to his outside and when progressing to the 1300 metres there appeared to be sufficient room for that runner to shift down the track and as a result he lost the position behind the leader.  After considering the available evidence and watching the race day footage Stewards advised Mr Coney to drive in a more competitive manner in future starts.  Inconvenienced at the 1200 metres when trailing DELIGHTFUL DREAM who broke stride.

DELIGHTFUL DREAM – Pre-race blood.  Approaching the 1200 metres became unbalanced and broke stride.  After regaining its correct gait the colt then again broke stride at the 800 metres.  Considering it being the horse’s first race start DELIGHTFUL DREAM will be required to requalify on one occasion.

VINNYSGAL – Checked between the 1100 and 900 metres when having to shift wider to avoid DELIGHTFUL DREAM who had broken stride.

WHERES MY REASON – Inconvenienced at the 1200 metres when shifting wider when DELIGHTFUL DREAM broke stride.  Post-race swab.

LA AMERICAIN – Tired over the concluding stages to finish in tenth position beaten 79.3 metres.  The gelding will be given its last chance to race truly.  A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding making an unusual breathing noise.  LA AMERICAIN will be stood down to be scoped.  Stewards will follow up with trainer K Jenner on the result of the scope in the coming days. Trainer K Jenner advised stewards that LA AMERICAIN has had a scope which revealed the gelding to be flipping its palate when under excision. It would be the intentions for the gelding to undergo surgery to rectify the problem.

OLIVER SHARK – Driver J Coney was queried on the gelding’s overall performance which tired over the concluding stages to finish in seventh position beaten 59.8 metres.  He stated when racing in a one out one back position in the early stages he believed the pace of the race had eased and was of the opinion that he may be able to work forward to a more suitable position but in hindsight believed the early move to race outside the leader proved detrimental to the gelding’s overall performance.  A warning will be placed on the performance of the gelding.
