Mr Fitzpatrick advised that in accordance with his instructions he elected to hold the lead when ALTA MAGACIAN NZ looked to challenge in the early stages however given the tempo of the lead time and the continual pressure applied by ALTA MAGACIAN NZ he elected to let that runner go passing the 1400 metres.  Mr Fitzpatrick further added that in his opinion the gelding had done a little too much work in the early stages and as a result struggled over the final 600 metres. A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities. After considering the explanation provided by Mr Fitzpatrick, Stewards advised Mr Fitzpatrick they felt he had erred in not electing to hand up to ALTA MAGACIAN NZ in the early stages of the event given the exposed form of NITRO DANNY however did not believe it was culpable to the standard required for his drive to be considered unacceptable and reminded him of his obligations to ensure he drives in a manner which ultimately gives his runner every chance to finish in the best possible position.

LOCHINVAR JAG – Checked between the 600 metres and the 400 metres behind the tiring NITRO DANNY.

Mr Reynolds further added that the mare commenced to race roughly when the tempo of the event increased rounding the final turn. Mr Reynolds further advised Stewards that he would provide Stewards with an update if anything was to become noticeable with the mare in the coming days. A post-race veterinary examination of the mare failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities.  After considering the recent record of the mare, a warning was issued.

Stewards questioned driver Luke McCarthy with regards to the tactics he adopted in the early and middle stages of the event, in addition to the overall performance of the gelding which gave ground over the concluding stages to finish in tenth placing beaten 18 metres. Mr McCarthy advised Stewards it was always his intention to drive ROLL UP NZ forward in the early stages of the event and he was all but able to cross CLASSIC MISSION NZ passing the 1200 metres before that runner elected to kick up leaving him in a four wide position, at which point he had little choice but to restrain the gelding and take up a trailing position behind that runner before working forward to the position outside the leader. Mr McCarthy further added that he believed the unfavourable run contributed to the performance this evening. A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities. After considering the explanation provided by Mr McCarthy, Stewards determined to note his comments.

RACE 6 – CARGE AUTO GROUP WINTER GIFT FINAL (LISTED CLASSIC) – 1609 metres

FASHION ICON – Pre-race blood sample.  Held up in the early stages of the home straight before gaining clear running passing the 75 metres. Stewards questioned driver Amanda Turnbull regarding the tactics she adopted on the gelding, in particular during the early and latter stages of the event.  Ms Turnbull advised Stewards that FASHION ICON is a gelding that is unable to be driven forward in the early stages of its races as it strikes its knees and has a tendency to do a lot of things wrong which is apparent in the horses record. Ms Turnbull advised that as a result of being unable to be driven forward she was crossed by JALANEEL in the early stages and considered restraining to gain a position in the running line behind LOCHINVAR JAG but that runner continued to be positioned to her outside and ultimately ensured that she was placed four back on the marker pegs.  When further questioned about FASHION ICON being steered back down the track passing the 400 metres Ms Turnbull advised that she no sooner came off the back of JALANEEL rounding the final turn when she became concerned with the ground being conceded by STILL ROLLIN NZ and as a result she tried to restrain FASHION ICON back on to the helmet of JALANEEL, however FASHION ICON was racing too keenly at that stage and she then elected to come wider looking to obtain clear running.  Ms Turnbull further added that she didn’t think FASHION ICON really ran through the line when gaining clear running over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities. After considering the explanation provided by Ms Turnbull, which is consistent with the racing pattern and history of the gelding, Stewards determined to note her comments.

MILLIE ME – Post-race swab sample.

SHES A WARRAWEE – Caught racing wide in the early stages of the event before working forward to the position outside the leader passing the 1200 metres. Stewards questioned driver Cameron Hart with regards to the performance of the filly which gave ground over the concluding stages to finish in ninth placing beaten 36 metres inconveniencing PEACE OUT.  Mr Hart advised Stewards that he had intended to restrain the filly after the start, however it was racing too keenly at that point and he elected to improve forward to race outside the leader from the 1200 metres however the filly continued to over race through the middle stages of the event and in his opinion was the reason it weakened over the concluding stages.  A post-race veterinary examination of the filly failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities.  After considering the explanation provided by Mr Hart, Stewards determined to note his comments.
