SUPPLEMENTARY REPORTS
NEWCASTLE – 4 July 2025
RACE 1 – BARASTOC PACE – 1609 metres
Driver B Hughes pleaded guilty to a charge under rule 162(1)(www)(iii) for shifting up the track in a manner which advantaged another runner. The particulars of the charge Mr B Hughes failed to make sufficient effort to prevent his runner LONGWINDINGROAD from shifting up the track upon entry to the home straight and continued thereafter to drive along which further allowed his runner to shift up the track and as a result provided clear running to LOVE LOU which was trailing and ultimately was successful in the event. When considering penalty Stewards took into account his guilty plea and record in relation to the rule. Mr Hughes was fined the sum of $200.
NEWCASTLE – 11 July 2025
RACE 4 – HARNESS BREEDERS NSW / REPRESENTING THE INDUSTRY PACE – 2030 metres
Stewards opened an inquiry into the driving tactics adopted by B Elder (ROCKTAGONAL). Driver B Elder explained that after finding a rearward position the tempo in the event was quite steady and elected to move quickly racing down the back straight on the first occasion in an attempt to find the lead due to the tempo being so slow. He further added that after being caught racing in a position outside of the leader looked to maintain his tempo and race on terms with the leader throughout the middle stages of the event as he felt this would best suit his runner. Stewards noted his comments and also advised that the tempo could have been eased during the middle stages of the event to provide some respite to his drive.
