RACE 2 – TAB VENUE MODE PACE – 2125 metres
ROCKSIE ROCK – Leaving the 300 metres was placed in restricted room by CASH AND BLING which shifted out slightly and subsequently ROCKSIE ROCK was taken wider and had to be steadied. A short time later ROCKSIE ROCK became unbalanced and broke gait. Driver S Grima was questioned regarding the tactics employed on ROCKSIE ROCK AND his decision to issue a secondary challenge for the lead between the 1750 metres and the 1600 metres. S Grima explained he was instructed by Trainer B Muscat to utilise the gelding’s gate speed and attempt to lead. He added that he expected ROCKSIE ROCK would be able to cross WHEREISHE. S Grima said that after the start he drove to instructions, and he was surprised when WHEREISHE was able to display sufficient gate speed to maintain the lead. He added that shortly after he left the back straight on the first occasion, he steadied ROCKSIE ROCK in the hope he may receive cover. Then as the field progressed towards the 1700 metres it was apparent WHEREISHE had slowed the tempo significantly and he saw Driver B Portelli turn his head which indicated in his opinion, was a sign he was looking to obtain a trailing position. Therefore, he drove ROCKSIE ROCK with vigour and quickly raced up to the outside of WHEREISHE however Driver B Portelli (WHEREISHE) turned his whip and showed his intent to maintain the lead approaching the 1600 metres. S Grima said he desisted from his challenge and immediately looked to obtain cover again. S Grima added that he expected SINALOA would make a mid-race move particularly given the solid lead time. When this did not occur, S Grima said that ROCKSIE ROCK raced keenly, and he was slightly disappointed with the gelding’s inability to finish off as well as expected. S Grima stated that near the 300 metres when having to steady ROCKSIE ROCK the gelding hit its knee which caused it to become unbalanced. S Grima’s explanation was noted, and he was advised Stewards would review wagering on this particular race.
MARATHON MAN NZ – Sustained a flat tyre near the 250 metres.
SUPER DUPER DUDE NZ – Pre-race blood sample.
CASH AND BLING – Leaving the 300 metres shifted out when not quite clear of ROCKSIE ROCK taking that runner out toward MARATHON MAN NZ and a short time after ROCKSIE ROCK became unbalanced and broke gait. Driver W Rixon was issued a reprimand under Rule 168(1)(a) for careless driving in that when he shifted CASH AND BLING out his horse’s head struck the helmet of Driver L Green (ZEN MASTER) which caused him to have to steady CASH AND BLING which in turn placed ROCKSIE ROCK momentarily into restricted room.

DECIPHER – Leaving the 500 metres commenced to hang out and shifted out approaching the 400 metres affording IMA SHINKANSEN an inside run.
