RACE 5 – NSWSOA FIRST PAST THE POST BONUS PACE – 2100 metres
UNCLE JAY - Stewards today finalised an inquiry into the above mentioned race, of particular concern of the Stewards was the decision of Mr Lee to remain in a position behind DORRISTOPAYTHEBILL resulting in UNCLE JAY being held up for clear running over the concluding stages and not fully tested.
Mr Lee explained UNCLE JAY had hung out slightly in the straight and followed the leader DORRISTOPAYTHEBILL wider on the track, he was also of the opinion that a full run wasn’t available to the inside of DORRISTOPAYTHEBILL, however upon review of the films Mr Lee acknowledged that a run to the inside of DORRISTOPAYTHEBILL had developed around the 150 metres.
After considering all available evidence Stewards issued driver George Lee a Reprimand under Rule 149(2) for an unacceptable drive, in that when racing behind the leader Mr Lee failed to take an available run to the inside of DORRISTOPAYTHEBILL resulting in UNCLE JAY being held up for clear running over the concluding stages and not fully tested. In addition Mr Lee will be required to attend at least one mentoring session with a senior driver and a HRNSW Steward. In taking no further action Stewards where mindfully of Mr Lee’s good driving record and relative inexperience as he has only held a licence since 27th May 2024.
