RACE 2 – SUCCESS STUD PACE – 1740 metres
THE TALK – Post-race swab sampled.
ALWAYS BE BRENDAN – Pre-race swab sampled.
DOLLAR BROWNIE – Driver J Locke was queried regarding the below market expectations performance of the filly, he stated that she travelled quite keenly behind the mobile and began well so was able to obtain a forward position from the start and then was able to get cover in the early stages of the event. He added she continued to travel quite keenly throughout the race, and he was confident of being competitive when he asked her to improve from after leaving the 400 metres, but her run ended near the 200 metres, which he was disappointed with, given the run she had.
RACE 3 – SETTLERS VILLAGE PACE – 1740 metres
ARCHIE MOTH – Post-race swab sampled.
BOUND FOR TROUBLE – Pre-race swab sampled. Broke gait free of interference near the 200 metres, for which a warning was issued. A post-race Veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.
RACE 4 – POSEIDON ANIMAL HEALTH PACE – 1740 metres
SIGNIFICANT LAZ – Inconvenienced behind the tiring SHARP INTEREST approaching the 200 metres.
IM PRINCESS NELLIE – Driver J Stockton was questioned regarding the tactics adopted with the filly in particular after the filly was caught racing in a three wide position from the start him continuing to drive it forward three wide until after leaving the 1000 metres, particularly given the quick sectional times being set during those stages of the races. J Stockton stated that prior to the race the intended tactics were to go forward at the start to obtain a forward position in the early stages of the race. He added that after being beaten for early speed he still felt his best chance in the race was to obtain the position outside the leader and felt that KEAYANG SANTIAGO which was racing outside the leader at that point would take cover. He further added that rounding the first turn his filly commenced to suck wind and dropped the bit however he still felt his best chance was to go forward so continued to drive the filly out however he was unable to get her to muster enough speed to cross KEAYANG SANTIAGO and commenced to restrain after leaving the 1000 metres. A post-race Veterinary examination revealed the filly to have recovered within normal parameters with the Vet reporting that the filly did have a heart murmur which in her opinion had not effected its performance in today’s race. Stewards issued a charge against J Stockton under Rule 149(2) for driving in a manner which in the opinion of the Stewards was unacceptable, in that after being caught racing three wide from the start on the filly he has continued to drive her forward three wide until after leaving the 1000 metres when the sectional times being set during those stages of the race were quick when he had the option to restrain to obtain cover, which resulted in the filly not being able to be competitive in the finish of the race. J Stockton pleaded guilty to the charge. In assessing penalty Stewards took into consideration J Stockton’s guilty plea, his record with regards to this rule, relative inexperience, the HRNSW penalty guidelines and the particular circumstances of the offence. J Stockton had his license to drive in races suspended for a period of 6 weeks.
SPREAD THE FEAR – Checked near the 100 metres when KEAYANG SANTIAGO broke gait.
KEAYANG SANTIAGO – Broke gait under pressure near the 100 metres, given the gelding’s record connections were advised that it would be required to perform a re-qualifying trial. A post-race Veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.
OTTOS WEALTH – Pre-race swab sampled. Post-race swab sampled.
KRISTYSGIRL – Driver J Hogan was fined the sum of $200 under Rule 156(2)(a) for using his whip with an action that was more than a wrist only flicking motion in the home straight.
SHARP INTEREST – Driver N Jack was queried regarding the below market expectations performance of the filly, he stated that he was a bit disappointed with it, however it did over-race as a result of it contacting its own sulky wheel with its hind leg at stages during the race. He added that it travelled well in the early and middle stages of the race but was off the bit from near the 500 metres and he was unable to get it to respond to his urgings. A post-race Veterinary examination revealed no significant abnormalities, although it was reported that the filly did have a slower than normal post-race recovery.
JILLIBY RYDER – Held up for clear running rounding the home turn.
RACE 5 – TASCO PETROLEUM WARATAH HEAT – 1740 metres
BRACKEN WARRIOR – Driver T Osmond was questioned regarding the tactics adopted with the gelding in particular her decision to shift out near the 200 metres from behind the leader WONGALEA YANK rather than wait for a run in the sprint lane. T Osmond stated that the gelding was travelling well rounding the home turn and when she saw that MOP NZ which was racing outside the leader had shifted out, she elected to take the run between that runner and the leader as she would have momentum entering the home straight and still have a clear run to the finish.
OUR ROCKY – Broke gait during the score-up, for which a warning was issued.
BOLANALONG – Pre-race swab sampled. Post-race swab sampled.
RACE 6 – NUTRIEN EQUINE PACE – 2270 metres
ROSIE POLLEN – Tired over the concluding stages for which a warning was issued.
DOVE LAKE – Hung-out near the 800 metres and rounding the home turn, losing ground as a result, connections were advised the filly would be placed on its last chance to race truly. A post-race Veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.
SANCHEZ – Driver N Jack was queried regarding the below market expectations performance of the gelding, he stated that he had intended to go forward however the gelding did not show enough early speed to be able to do that from the start. He added that he still intended to work forward to obtain a forward position, but he was three wide following MAGINOT LINE which did not go forward so he elected to restrain to obtain cover in the running line towards the back of the field. He further added that near the 600 metres he was still confident of a forward showing and was attempting to flush out another runner to follow into the race but that did not occur, and he kept getting pushed wider rounding the home turn. N Jack added that despite that he was still a little disappointed with the way it finished the race off as he feels it has shown previously and with its recent work that it is capable of getting home quickly and was concerned that something may have been amiss with the gelding. A post-race Veterinary examination revealed no significant abnormalities, although it was reported that the gelding did have a slower than normal post-race recovery.
SIREN SEA – Trainer D Hewitt was fined $50 under Rule 210 for not declaring a Driver for the mare by the required time. Pre-race swab sampled. Post-race swab sampled.
