RACE 1 – CLIFF LYONS FAMILY OF LEAGUE BARKERS BUTCHERY MEAT TRAY RAFFLE ON TONIGHT PACE – 1730 metres
LETTYS REASON – Tired over the concluding stages and beaten by a considerable margin. A post-race Veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Given the gelding’s record and the circumstances, connections were advised it would be required to perform a re-qualifying trial.
BOLERO – Pre-race swab sampled.
ALWAYSBMINNIE – Shifted in entering the first turn resulting in SWEET NATE being tightened for room. At a subsequent inquiry, Driver J Reynolds pleaded guilty to a charge under Rule 163(1)(a)(iii) for causing interference, in that entering the first turn, he shifted his runner in when not sufficiently clear of SWEET NATE which was tightened for room, and was checked and broke gait, and as a result CARBAGANOOSH was severely checked. In assessing penalty, Stewards took into account J Reynolds’s guilty plea, his very good driving record with regards to this rule and the particular circumstances of the incident. Driver J Reynolds had his license to drive in races suspended for a period of 10 days.
MISTERFOURTHOUSAND – Post-race swab sampled.
CARBAGANOOSH – Severely checked near the 1600 metres when SWEET NATE broke gait.
SHELL SHOCK NZ – Broke gait free of interference leaving the 1400 metres, for which a warning was issued.
SWEET NATE – Out of position at the start, for which a warning was issued. Tightened for room entering the first turn when ALWAYSBMINNIE shifted in and was checked and broke gait.
RACE 2 – STAN TYBURSKI FAMILY OF LEAGUE MEMBERS BADGE DRAW - $2480 TO BE WON PACE – 2260 metres
ZACHARY SHANNON – Driver T Bullock was issued with a reprimand under Rule 163(1)(a)(iii) for causing interference in that near the finish line he made insufficient effort to prevent the gelding from shifting out which has resulted in SEASIDER contacting his sulky wheel.
FARFALLA STRIDE – Shifted out under pressure upon entering the home straight.
SEASIDER – Inconvenienced near the 400 metres when GRAFFITI LANE shifted out. Contacted the sulky wheel of ZACHARY SHANNON near the finish line. A post-race Veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have a cut to its near hind leg which it received treatment on. Stewards acting on Veterinary advice advised connections that it would be stood down from racing for a period of 7 days.
DUFFY HOLLOW NZ – Broke gait during the score-up and was out of position at the start, for which a warning was issued.
TERRYRAMA – Examined by the Club Veterinarian prior to the race, as it has had over 200 race starts, and cleared to start. Pre-race swab sampled. Gave ground over the concluding stages of the event. Driver H Ross was queried in relation to the performance of the gelding and the tactics adopted with it, in particular him improving three wide to take up the position outside the leader near the 1400 metres, which appeared in contrast to how the gelding had been driven in its recent starts when competitive in the finish of those races. H Ross stated that the intended tactics were to obtain a position with cover as it is a sit sprinter, however the stable felt it was down in grade tonight and if the speed came out of the race would he had the option to work forward. He added after getting cover in the early stages he felt the pace eased approaching the 1600 metres and he was of the view that GRAFFITI LANE which was racing outside the leader was easing and looking for cover, so he elected to improve to obtain that position. He further added that he was able to get to that position relatively easily and felt the sectionals from that point weren’t overly quick, but it was under pressure and hung-in rounding the home turn and he felt it was a bit disappointing given the run it had.
TAPAGANOOSH – Post-race swab sampled.
RACE 3 – ROYCE SIMMONS FAMILY OF LEAGUE RACE NIGHT PACE – 1730 metres
BAM BAM BROOK – Pre-race swab sampled.
ZARAS SPECIAL – Driver J O’Shea’s whip became entangled with Driver L Green’s whip upon entering the home straight and he was unable to get it untangled resulting in him being unable to drive the filly out to the finish.
MONDO GLITZ – Driver A Hurst was issued with a reprimand under Rule 163(1)(a)(iii) for causing interference in that entering the first turn she shifted the gelding in when not sufficiently clear of LAYLA SHANNON which was tightened for room.
HONOLULU PRINCESS – Driver L Green’s whip became entangled with Driver J O’Shea’s whip upon entering the home straight and he was unable to get it untangled resulting in him being unable to drive the filly out to the finish.
RIKIBREAL – Post-race swab sampled.
LAYLA SHANNON – Tightened for room entering the first turn when MONDO GLITZ shifted-in.

KICK THE SWITCH – Pre-race swab sampled. Held up for clear running until near the 50 metres.
BAXTER RED – Post-race swab sampled.
JEWEL MELODY – Trainer/Driver B Hewitt was given the opportunity to comment on the below market expectation performance of the mare, he stated that after obtaining the one-out one-back position near the 1200 metres when SAINT EMILION worked forward to the lead, he elected to work forward three wide to take over the position outside the leader as FIRESTORM RED was hanging well back in that position giving him the impression that that position was available and he was able to get that position fairly easily near the 1000 metres. He added that the mare travelled okay but there was a strong headwind in the back straight and it may have been somewhat of a disadvantage racing outside the leader at that point. He further added that despite that he was still a bit disappointed with the way she finished the race off. A post-race Veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.
