TIME TO DANCE NZ – Checked passing the 500 metres when THE DEVILS FLAME commenced to tire.

THE DEVILS FLAME – Driver Michael Stanley was questioned regarding the tactics adopted on the gelding, in particular his decision to maintain the lead when challenged by PERFECT STRANGER NZ during the early stages. Mr Stanley explained THE DEVILS FLAME had recently been performing well in relatively fast times as evidenced at its most recent start where THE DEVILS FLAME finished 2nd beaten less than 5 metres in a fast mile rate of 1:53.8 seconds at Penrith on the 4 September 2025. Mr Stanley further added he felt his main danger in the race was PERFECT STRANGER NZ and when that runner progressed to his outside he elected to maintain the lead as he felt his best chance of beating PERFECT STRANGER NZ was by having that runner to his outside positioned without cover. Mr Stanley added that after securing the lead shortly after passing the 1900 metres he commenced to steady THE DEVILS FLAME in order to provide the gelding some respite, however THE DEVILS FLAME commenced to over race from that point and continued to do so until being placed under pressure in the middle stages. Mr Stanley added he was of the view THE DEVILS FLAME had choked down as a consequence which resulted in the gelding tiring over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination of THE DEVILS FLAME failed to reveal any significant finding. Upon consideration of all the available evidence, Stewards were satisfied the tactics adopted in the circumstances were not entirely unreasonable and took the matter no further with respect to direction action against Mr Stanley, however THE DEVILS FLAME will be required to trial to the satisfaction of Stewards on one occasion before racing again.

PERFECT STRANGER NZ – Pre-race blood sample. Post-race swab sample.

SKY CITY NZ – Inconvenienced passing the 500 metres when THE DEVILS FLAME commenced to tire.

HOT CRUISE CONTROL – Checked passing the 500 metres when THE DEVILS FLAME commenced to tire.

CHOOCHOO TRAIN – Driver Peter Green Jnr was questioned regarding the performance of the gelding which finished in 9th and last placing beaten in excess of 200 metres. Mr Green Jnr explained that CHOOCHOO TRAIN was fractious in the initial stages of the score up which was unusual for the gelding, and he felt the horse appeared to be somewhat agitated pre-race which he felt may have been a contributing factor to the overall disappointing performance. Mr Green Jnr further added in his opinion CHOOCHOO TRAIN may be  better suited to limiting its racing to Penrith in future. A post-race veterinary examination of CHOOCHOO TRAIN failed to reveal any significant findings. After considering the beaten margin, CHOOCHOO TRAIN will now be stood down from racing until trialling to the satisfaction of Stewards.
