MY ROCK MOVES – Pre-race blood sample. When questioned in relation to the tactics adopted. Driver B Hughes explained that he had been instructed to drive with urgency in the early stages as the gelding was best suited when racing in a forward position. He said that he was caught wide after the start and entering the back straight on the first occasion he elected to drive forward in an effort to cross LONGNWINDINGROAD and obtain the position outside the lead. He said that despite his efforts MY ROCK MOVES could not muster sufficient speed to achieve this and passing the 1000 metres he was obliged to restrain in a three wide position. He said that after this he felt it would have been detrimental to restrain to the rear of the field to obtain cover as it would have taken considerable effort and distance and therefore, he elected to allow his drive to travel freely in a three wide position. He said that inside the 200 metres MY ROCK MOVES began to hang in which disadvantaged him and then after entering the home straight was hampered when CHEDDAR VALLEY NZ shifted out forward of him, which resulted in him not being able to maintain the run he had established. He said that after this when in clear running over the concluding stages MY ROCK MOVES continued to run to the line strongly.

A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormality. Connections were advised that prior to racing again CARRAMAR OLAM must perform satisfactorily in an official qualifying trial. Subsequently Mr T Ison the driver of NIGHT TO REMEMBER was reprimanded under AR 163(1)(a)(iii) in relation to the incident near the 1200 metres.
