RACE 1 – BAKERS BUTCHERY MEAT TRAY RAFFLE ON TONIGHT PACE – 2260 metres
FUNDA – Had a tendency to hang in under pressure over the final 300 metres when giving ground.
PUPPETEER – Pre-race blood. At the request of connections a pre-race warm up was approved. Shifted out under pressure in the home straight on the final occasion. Driver J Reynolds was questioned on his tactics especially if there was an opportunity to restrain his drive in the early stages to obtain an easier lead than a 46.8 lead time. Furthermore when racing in the third quarter increased the tempo of the race to run the third quarter in 27.3. Mr Reynolds stated the gelding was beaten for speed from the start and worked forward to the lead, when obtaining the lead believed PUPPETEER to be travelling comfortably although the tempo was reasonably fast. He was then able to restrain the gelding in the first quarter to gain some respite ,when approaching the winning post with a lap to go FUNDA improved to his outside where PUPPETEER commenced to over race to some degree and when racing in the third quarter in a 27.3 was faster than he thought the gelding was going. He further added when placing PUPPETEER under pressure over the final 300 metres he believed the gelding to finish the race off satisfactorily. After considering the evidence, Stewards believed he had erred in his tactics by allowing the tempo to increase in the third quarter when no pressure was being applied to his runner. Stewards believed the drive to not be culpable enough to take any action against his driver's license but advised him to drive in a manner that is not a concern to the Stewards.
