NITRO DANNY – Failed to run on over the concluding stages to be beaten 40 metres and finished in ninth position. Stewards questioned driver C Hart in relation to the performance of the gelding. Mr Hart explained that he was happy with the way that the gelding found the lead and was happy with the first quarter however noted that when pressure was applied during the second quarter from KATES VIRTUE he felt that from this point the gelding did not appreciate this pressure and failed to run on over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have a high heart rate however no other significant abnormalities were detected. In view of the performance of NITRO DANNY a warning was issued.

STELLINA – Stewards questioned driver T Osmond in relation to her decision shortly after entering the first turn where it appeared there was an opportunity for STELLINA to be shifted from three back along the marker pegs to the position one out one back trailing OKAY GRINGO when that runner was unable to find the lead. Ms Osmond explained that approaching this point she did look and notice that the position one out one back was available however elected not to shift into that position as she was concerned that OKAY GRINGO would not be a runner would be able to take her into the event considering its racing manners when noting that the horse can over race. Ms Osmond explained that she also noted that PETES BIG JIM and CHARLIES ACE NZ were the runners along the marker pegs at that stage that she was trailing and she was satisfied that trailing those runners would afford her an opportunity to be taken into the event. Stewards noted her comments.

MAGNETIC STORM – Improved three wide from the 1700 metres until working forward to the position outside of the leader passing the 1000 metres. Driver J Gallagher pleaded guilty to a charge under rule 163(1)(a)(iii) for causing interference in that leaving the 1200 metres he has allowed MAGNETIC STORM to shift down inside the line of LEAVE IT TO LUCY until a point approaching the 1000 metres when he restrained MAGNETIC STORM prior to being sufficiently clear of LEAVE IT TO LUCY resulting in contact to LEAVE IT TO LUCY causing that runner to be checked and gallop. As a result of LEAVE IT TO LUCY being checked TIGER EUPHEME was also checked wider on the track to avoid the galloping runner.
