Mr Turnbull added that he felt that MAKES YOU WONDER might have surrendered the position to his drive however when challenging GIFTED BRIGADE NZ began to hang in and proved difficult to improve past the leader MAKES YOU WONDER. Mr Turnbull further advised that leaving the 1000m he again challenged for the lead position as he was of the opinion given the early work done to hold the lead MAKES YOU WONDER might have surrendered on this occasion, however that did not eventuate and GIFTED BRIGADE NZ was forced to remain racing outside of the leader before then commencing to give ground racing down the back straight on the final occasion. Mr Turnbull added that in hindsight he may have miscalculated the amount of work his drive was able to endure and that the racing manners of GIFTED BRIGADE NZ also placed that runner at a disadvantage. Stewards notified Mr Turnbull that in their opinion he may have erred with the second challenge to MAKES YOU WONDER, however in not taking the matter further were mindful of the racing manners displayed by his drive throughout the event. Mr Turnbull advised that he was aware of the quicker than normal tempo being run for the class but was confident in holding the lead position due to his runner leading and being successful at its most recent start.
