Particular concern of the stewards was after breaking gait entering the first turn and losing around 30 metres Mr Ross elected to then proceed three wide at the 1400 metres and worked forward to a position outside the leader at the 1150 metres, before commencing to tire approaching the 400 metres and again breaking gait shortly after the  400 metres. Mr Ross stated that he has a good opinion of the filly and the stable were confident of a forward showing today, after the filly had broke gait and caught the field LUNAR WITCH commenced to contact its own sulky and given it was hanging in on the first turn thought it would be best to move to a position outside the leader.  Approaching the 400 metres, the filly became under pressure again and commenced to give ground before breaking gait. Giving consideration, Stewards were mindful of the distance LUNAR WITCH had lost when breaking gait as to be around 30 metres before progressing forward, Stewards believe Mr Ross had erred in his judgement in allowing the filly to race three wide and outside the leader at this point, however given the filly had broke gait on a second occasion did not feel that any charge could be sustained and as a result no further action was taken. In view of the manners of the filly, LUNAR WITCH will now be required to perform one requalifying trial.
