RACE 2 – MATT JONES APPRECIATION PACE – 1740 metres

SPREAD THE FEAR – Held up for clear running until near the 100 metres.

TIGER CHEDDAR – Driver T Osmond was questioned regarding the tactics adopted tonight with the gelding, which led after showing gate speed and maintained that lead before giving ground over the concluding stages, which appeared in contrast to how it had been driven recently, where it had surrendered the lead. T Osmond stated that the Trainer had stated prior to the race that if they were able to lead and were not overly pressured to attempt to lead throughout which she endeavoured to comply with. She added that while the tempo of the race was solid and quicker than she would have preferred, due to initially VALENTINI working forward to take up the position outside the leader, and then MELATI BOY followed by BIDGEE BABE working forward three wide to take over the position outside the leader, she didn’t feel any of those runners challenged her for the lead. She added that she wasn’t too disappointed with its run given the sectional times run.

CRIMSON ROCK NZ – Pre-race swab sampled.

VALENTINI – Pre-race swab sampled.

GLAMORS SYMBOL – Examined by the Club Veterinarian prior to the race, as it has had over 200 race starts, and cleared to start. Following the race, it was reported by the Starter that there was blood present in one nostril. In accordance with Rule 101B(2), connections were advised the gelding would be required to perform a re-qualifying trial. A post-race Veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.

MELATI BOY – Inconvenienced behind the tiring BIDGEE BABE near the 200 metres.

BIDGEE BABE – Driver D Perrot was questioned regarding the performance and tactics adopted tonight with the mare, which tired over the concluding stages after working forward three wide with cover behind MELATI BOY in the early stages and then three wide without cover in the middle stages of the event before obtaining the position outside the leader leaving the 1000 metres and then tiring over the concluding stages. D Perrot stated that the mare is one-paced, and he attempted to drive it in a similar manner to how it was driven at its most recent start when it was successful at Albury after working forward three wide. He added that it travelled well in the early stages when it had cover and when MELATI BOY got to the position outside the leader he anticipated that it would surrender that position to him, however that did not occur and he had to work harder than he would have liked to get around that runner to get to the position outside the leader. He further added that that extra work took a toll on the mare over the concluding stages.

THE CLOCK WINDER – Post-race swab sampled.

WONGALEA MEG – Tired over the concluding stages. Driver J Painting was queried regarding the performance; he stated that he was disappointed with its effort as he felt he had been able to set reasonable sectionals while leading and was at a loss to explain it, other than feeling that it may have been better to be driven with cover in tonight’s race. A post-race Veterinary examination revealed the mare to be suffering from a poor post-race recovery.
