SET UP – Driver Will Rixon was questioned the performance of the gelding which finished in 8th placing ($1.55 fav). Mr Rixon explained he allowed SET UP to progress forward immediately after the start and did not anticipate having to make as mush use of the gelding to secure the lead as what occurred. Mr Rixon added that upon securing the lead approaching the 1200 metres he attempted to steady the speed of the event, however midway through the second quarter WAMBOYNEINAMERICA progressed to his outside which prevented him from being able to steady the speed as much as he would have liked. Mr Rixon added that despite the first half being recorded in a fast 56.3 seconds he felt SET UP was still slightly disappointing over the concluding stages. Mr Rixon further added that he may recommend to connections SET UP be driven in a more conservative manner in races of a similar class in future. A post-race veterinary examination of SET UP failed to reveal any significant findings. A warning was placed on the record of the gelding for this evening’s performance.

OUR SAFARI STAR – Driver Seaton Grima explained he allowed the gelding to progress forward immediately after the start as he was confident of a forward performance as OUR SAFARI STAR had worked well leading into tonight’s event and he felt the gelding would derive experience and benefit from its first race start on 23 October 2025. Mr Grima added upon improving to the outside of MEANT TO BE SLOY approaching the 1000 metres it became apparent he would not be able to secure the position outside the leader and at that point he commenced to steady OUR SAFARI STAR so as to provide the gelding some respite albeit positioned 3 wide without cover. Mr Grima added he did not feel it was suitable to restrain OUR SAFARI STAR to the rear of the field at such a late stage of the event. Tightened passing the 1300 metres when MEANT TO BE SLOY shifted out.
MEANT TO BE SLOY – Post-race swab sample. Driver Cameron Hart was issued with a reprimand under Rule 163(1)(a)(iii) in that approaching the 1300 metres he permitted MEANT TO BE SLOY to shift out resulting in OUR SAFARI STAR being momentarily tightened. In not taking more severe action Stewards were satisfied Mr Hart had commenced his movement wide when sufficiently clear of OUR SAFARI STAR.
