A LITTLE DILEMMA – Came together with ELLIE RIPPIN approaching the home turn resulting in both runners locking wheels and being unbalanced for a considerable distance and were unable to become free from each other until well into the home straight.

ROCK AROUND – A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

RACE 5 – TAMWORTH CLASSIC FIRE ENGINE CLUB PACE – 1609 metres

SPORTING ROBYN NZ – Broke stride during the score up and galloped for a short distance. Connections were advised a warning would be placed on the mare’s racing record. Had to be checked and struck the sulky of SAINT KARAMARA after entering the home straight on the final occasion when attempting to improve into a run between it and MY LATIN LADY which shifted out marginally as SAINT KARAMARA was being shifted to the inside of IM LORD TOMMY to go forward.

SAINT KARAMARA -Pre-race blood sample.

IM LORD TOMMY – Driver T Brown was reprimanded under Rule 162(1) (www), for allowing the gelding to shift out inside the 150 metres in a manner which could have hampered other runners. Post-race swab sample.

BRAVE BONDI – Galloped away when the start was effected. Trainer Mr B James was advised the horse would now be placed outside the mobile barrier draw. B James left foot dropped below the sulky rest momentarily approaching the home turn when he was activating gear.

DOUBLE LINES – Unable to obtain clear running at any stage in the home straight and went to the finish without being tested.

TIGERMAC – When questioned in relation to the tactics adopted B Hughes explain he drove forward from his back row starting position and attempted to obtain a position outside the lead however IM LORD TOMMY showed superior speed and he was unable to prevent that runner taking the position he sought. He said after this he was trapped 3 wide and rounding the turn after the start and when attempting to cross IM LORD TOMMY, he was unable to muster sufficient speed to achieve this and to avoid being trapped excessively wide he restrained to a rearward position and obtained cover. He said passing the winning post on the final occasion he was travelling well behind BRING YOUR BEST and when entering the back straight considered improving around the field from that point, however he felt that due to covering excessive ground in the early sages this would be detrimental and he waited until BRING YOUR BEST went forward and improved with that runner. He said inside the 400 metres he shifted to the outside of BRING YOUR BEST to continue to go forward and when placed under pressure from this point TIGERMAC ran to the finish strongly.

RACE 6 – SANTA HERE TODAY AT 4PM PACE – 1980 metres

RIPPIN RUPERT – post-race swab sample.

FOUR FEATHERS – Pre-race blood sample.

RACE 7 – CHRISTMAS GIFT BOX PACE – 1980 metres

BUSHY BEACH NZ – When questioned in relation to the manner in which he drove the gelding over the concluding stages, B Elder explained that after obtaining the lead with ease the gelding travelled relatively well, however was under pressure inside the 600 metres and rounding the home turn was fully extended. He said that at this time both METALLICA MAN and the eventual winner FAST TRACKER improved forward of him very easily and as he was confident of holding 3rd position he drove the gelding with limited vigour, however enough to ensure he maintained his position in the placings.

CHEDDAR VALLEY NZ – When questioned in relation to the tactics adopted and overall performance, driver B Hughes explained that his pre-race assessment indicated that BUSHY BEACH would be the strongest opposition and from his favourable draw he intended to maintain close contact to that runner. He said that after beginning well, he was able to obtain the position at the head if the running line outside BUSHY BEACH where his drive travelled relatively well, however it tended to hang in. He said that when challenged by ROUGE BLING he initially drove forward to maintain his position, however CHEDDAR VALLEY continued to hang in, therefore he ceased applying pressure and allowed it to race within itself. He added that after maintaining that position, when placed under pressure inside the 500m, the gelding was unresponsive and ran to the finish in a disappointing manner.

ROUGE BLING – When questioned in relation to the tactics adopted Driver T Brown explained, that his pre-race assessment was that BUSHY BEACH would lead and be a strong winning chance and the fact that the barrier draw indicated a slow lead time and first half, he intended to drive forward from his wide barrier position and attempt to lead or race outside it, in an effort to ensure the race was run at a competitive tempo, which in his opinion gave his drive the best chance to win. He said that he drove with vigour after the start to achieve this and gained enough advantage over CHEDDAR VALLEY in the early stages to persist, albeit without establishing a position to cross. He said that because of this and his observation of the way CHEDDAR VALLEY was being driven, he persisted with his endeavour for longer than he had intended and after failing to gain sufficient momentum to cross, he elected to ease to the rear of the field in the back straight on the first occasion and obtain cover. He stated that after this, ROUGE BILNG failed to travel well and was unresponsive when placed under pressure inside the 500m. Mr Brown conceded that with hindsight, he maintained his challenge to CHEDDAR VALLEY for too long, however he did so after assessing his position entering the home straight on the first occasion, where he felt he was entitled to continue with the execution of an extensive pre-race plan. His explanation was accepted. Trainer Mr D Brown said that the gelding’s recovery would be monitored and if it was satisfactory, it would be nominated for a staying event at the upcoming Maitland racing carnival, where it would be driven similarly if circumstances permitted. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

FAST TRACKER – Post-race swab sample.

DIDSHEDOIT NZ – Pre-race blood sample. Had to be shifted around BUSHY BEACH NZ abruptly approaching the 100 metres to continue to be driven forward.

RACE 8 – SEASONS GREETINGS FROM TAMTROTS PACE – 1980 metres

ALTIANO – Pre-race blood sample.

IM NO GIFT – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be uneven in its gait in front. Trainer/Driver Miss S Rushbrook was advised a stand down period of 7 days would be applied and prior to racing again IM NO GIFT must undergo a veterinary examination to determine its fitness.

CHARJO – Broke stride free of any external factors inside the final 400 metres and despite being immediately restrained galloped for a short distance. Prior to the declaration of all clear, this incident was examined and it was determined that when CHARJO broke stride it was restrained sufficiently to lose its established position, then taken wider around the field to be driven forward and improved past runners that it had been trailing. All clear was declared under those circumstances. Connections were advised a warning would be placed on the colts racing record.

WHISKEY ROYALE – Raced in restricted room rounding the home turn and was unable to obtain clear running at any stage in the home straight and went to the finish without being tested.

OHWHATIWOULDGIVE – post-race swab sample.

RACE 9 – RACING RETURNS 8TH JANUARY PACE – 1609 metres

MCCRIKEY – Pre-race blood sample.
