A post-race veterinary examination revealed the colt to be slightly lame in the off fore leg. Adopting the veterinary recommendations FASTING was stood down for a period of seven days and until a veterinary certificate of fitness is submitted. When questioned trainer/driver D Hancock explained that in his opinion FASTING has always had an unusual gait and was not concerned with any lameness issues. He added that in his opinion FASTING was meeting a superior field and the particularly fast last half mile was detrimental due to the colt losing the back of the leader leaving the 600 metres which caused him to drop the bit and commence to weaken.
TIGER PRINCE – Held up behind the tiring FASTING from the 400 metres to the 200 metres losing significant ground.

HELLUVA NZ – Approaching the 1200 metres reduced the tempo in the running line and in doing so received a slight contact to the near side wheel which caused HELLUVA NZ to sustain a flat tyre. The gelding was then eased out of the event near the 1100 metres.
