A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormality.

RACE 4 – THOMAS FOODS INTERNATIONAL APPRECIATION PACE – 1609 metres

BETTATHANMOZARELLA – Pre-race blood sample. Post-race swab sample.

THE IRISH EAGLE – Pulled hard during the early stages. When questioned in relation to the performance, Driver M Grima explained that he had difficulty restraining his drive when racing outside the leader without cover and it raced fiercely. He said that when he placed it under pressure inside the 600m, it was unresponsive and ran to the finish in a disappointing manner, which he attributed to its want to over race. A Post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormality. Connections were advised a poor performance warning would be placed on the geldings racing record.

RACE 5 – PORTABLE HORSE STABLES APPRECIATION PACE – 1980 metres

MY ROCK MOVES – Hung in for a short distance passing the 600 metres. Near the 400 metres sustained contact from DUAL CAM and raced roughly for a short distance when that runner shifted wider when not quite clear. Subsequently, the Trainer/Driver of DUAL CAM, Mr D Chapple was reprimanded under Rule 163(1)(a)(iii).

AVENGER NZ – Pre-race blood sample. Post-race swab sample.

SUPERBON – When questioned in relation to the performance, Driver M Ison explained that after racing fiercely in the early stages, she was able to restrain to a rearward position however after this the gelding failed to travel at any stage and when placed under pressure inside the 600 metres was unresponsive and ran to the finish in a disappointing manner. Trainer M A Varga said if the gelding’s recovery was satisfactory the racing preparation would be continued and he would assume the if the drive and draw was favourable it would be driven forward at its next start.

RAINBOW JET – Checked and broke stride rounding the home turn when racing tight on the inside of DUAL CAM which hung in and shifted in despite the efforts of its driver.

RACING PAULA – Driver C McElhinney’s right foot slipped below the sulky rest momentarily near the 100 metres.

ADRENALINE RUSH – Pre-race blood sample. When questioned in relation to the performance, Driver M Ison explained that after being obliged to drive with more urgency than she had intended in the early stages, the gelding assumed the position outside the lead without cover and travelled well during the middle stages, however when placed under pressure inside the 500 metres was unresponsive and despite her continued efforts weakened in the run to the finish. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormality.

NIFTY STUDLEIGH – Passed required pre- and post-race veterinary examination.

RACE 7 – MILLENIUM SIGNS APPECIATION PACE – 1609 metres

KEILOR BABY SHARK – Post-race swab sample.

MAJOR MICKEY – Pre-race blood sample. Driver K Langelaar was fined $50 under Rule 52(5) for failing to return to the all-clear region after the race.

PURE DRAGON – When questioned in relation to the tactics adopted, Driver C Griffiths explained he drove with some urgency after the start in an attempt to obtain a forward position, however he was unable to muster sufficient speed to cross DIDSHEDOIT NZ which obliged him to race 3 wide rounding the turn after the start. He said at this time he attempted to restrain to a rearward position to obtain cover, but PURE DRAGON raced fiercely and he was unable to achieve this. He said for this reason after entering the back straight on the first occasion he drove forward for a short distance again in an attempt to establish a position outside the lead but was unsuccessful when again he could not clear DIDSHEDOIT NZ. He said after this he was trapped wide for a considerable distance and after eventually finding cover at the rear of the running line PURE DRAGON could not respond due in his opinion to the increased effort in the early stages.

IM LORD TOMMY – When questioned in relation to the tactics adopted in the early and middle stages, T Brown explained that in accordance with the gelding established racing pattern he intended to drive forward after the start in an attempt to race outside the lead. He said that after the start his drive raced roughly for a short distance which precluded it from mustering sufficient speed to go forward and he was then obliged to race 4 wide in the early stages. H said that despite this it was still his intention to be positioned outside the lead and rounding the turn after the start, he observed the driver of PURE DRAGON on his inside attempting to ease and for this reason he continued to apply pressure to his drive to cross. He stated that when PURE DRAGON could not be sufficiently restrained, he was trapped very wide entering the back straight on the first occasion, however continued with his pre-race plan to drive forward. He said that after continual pressure he could not cross runners to his inside and nearing the 900m he desisted and restrained to the rear of the field. He added that after this IM LORD TOMMY could not improve due to the effort he extracted from it in the early stages. Mr Brown conceded that with hindsight he persisted for too long with his pre-race plan and should have obtained cover after entering the back straight on the first occasion. Mr Brown was told that given the outcome of the race his drive fell short of being blameworthy, however he must at all times in the future drive in a manner that precludes singlemindedness and afford all his drives the best opportunity to win or obtain their best possible position.

HEZA DOOZIE - Driver T Ison was fined $50 under Rule 52(5) for failing to return to the all-clear region after the race.

FAST TRACKER - Driver J Coney was fined $50 under Rule 52(5) for failing to return to the all clear region after the race.
