RACE 3 – DAYS INDUSTRIAL PACE – 1710 metres
General: Stewards delayed the declaration of All Clear to review the start of the event. After examining the available replays, it was established that SAPPHIRE BOY was not afforded a fair start when the mobile barrier was positioned too close to the marker pegs which caused the gelding to make contact with the marker pegs immediately prior to the start and consequently break gait. After taking evidence from Driver Cameron Hart, and considering all available material, Stewards were satisfied that SAPPHIRE BOY had been denied a fair start. Acting under the relevant provisions of Rule 15(1)(t) SAPPHIRE BOY was declared a non‑runner.
SHEBETTORWATCHOUT – Approaching the 800 metres, SHEBETTORWATCHOUT was checked when the pace eased noticeably. As a result of this reduction in tempo, TARA JIM, which was following, and was not sufficiently restrained by its driver, causing that runner to be checked and, in turn, contributing to SHEBETTORWATCHOUT being checked. After the race it was reported that SHEBETTORWATCHOUT had suffered a broken near side hopple carrying strap.
TARA JIM -Driver Sebastian Piltz was reprimanded under AHR Rule 168(1)(a) for careless driving, in that approaching the 800 metres Mr Piltz failed to sufficiently restrain his runner when the driver of SLYX NZ commenced to ease the pace, resulting in TARA JIM being checked. This in turn caused SHEBETTORWATCHOUT to be checked and ANGELIC ATTITUDE to be checked and break gait. When determining the matter, Stewards acknowledged that the pace of the race had steadied noticeably, which contributed to the incident. However, Stewards were satisfied that Mr Piltz was positioned a significant distance from the leading runners and as such had an opportunity to respond to the easing of the pace earlier than what occurred.
SLYX NZ – Pre-race blood sample. Driver Lleyton Green was reprimanded under AHR Rule 162(1)(u) for reducing the speed of his horse in a manner that contributed to interference, in that passing the winning post on the first occasion, after successfully withstanding a challenge for the lead, Mr Green steadied SLYX NZ which contributed to TARA JIM, SHEBETTORWATCHOUT and ANGELIC ATTITUDE being checked. In not taking more severe action against Mr Green, Stewards were mindful of the significant distance between Mr Green and the nearest trailing runner and the delay of a trailing driver to respond to the easing pace, which in the opinion of the Stewards, contributed to the subsequent interference. Post‑race swab sample was obtained.
ANGELIC ATTITUDE – Approaching the 800 metres, ANGELIC ATTITUDE was checked due to a reducing pace and, as a consequence, broke gait.
CAPITALISM – Inconvenience at shortly after the start when SAPPHIRE BOY broke gait. Leaving the back straight on the first occasion, CAPITALISM improved three wide and issued a challenge for the lead.

RACE 7 – TAB VENUE MODE PACE – 2240 metres
MEANT TO BE SLOY – Tired over the concluding stages to finish in 7th position, beaten 143 metres. ZAYNES TIGER – Tired over the concluding stages to finish 6th, beaten 131 metres. Driver Jack Callaghan explained that the gelding’s performance was disappointing and believed a fast early tempo and the work required to obtain the lead were contributing factors.
