General – The start of this race was delayed owing to Rockhampton Thoroughbreds Race 3 running behind advertised start time.

The All Clear was delayed allowing Driver B Elder and Trainer S Glasby to view the vision of the final 200m. After doing so neither party exercised their right of protest and All Clear was sounded.

Driver B Elder pleaded guilty to a charge under Rule 154(1) for failing to meet his obligations when his runner was in a gallop. In that he failed to restrain his drive by applying the whip to the mare and thereby initially failing to restrain his drive. Driver B Elder was fined $300 in assessing penalty, the panel was mindful of recent penalties under this rule, the degree of culpability in relation to the rule and that the actions of Mr Elder did not affect the result of the event.

Driver B Elder pleaded guilty to a charge under Rule 163(1)(a)(iii) with the particulars of the charge being that racing down the back straight on the final occasion he allowed his drive to shift out when insufficiently clear of WHENS LUNCH, resulting in that runner having its left-fore leg contacted and pacing roughly. Driver B Elder had his licence to drive in races suspended for a period of 10 days with the suspension ordered to commence midnight 7 February 2026. In assessing penalty, the panel was mindful of the guilty plea of Mr Elder, the interference caused to WHENS LUNCH and the driving record of Mr Elder.

The All Clear was delayed to consider a protest lodged by the connections of the 2nd placegetter TINNY MAHONEY against MACK PACK NZ (T Ison) being declared the winner. Upon consideration of the protest, it was established that racing down the back straight on the final occasion MACK PACK NZ, which was leading shifted out, allowing an inside run for TINNY MAHONEY, which was initially trailing. From this stage at approximately the 500m to the 200m TINNY MAHONEY raced in tight racing room to the inside of MACK PACK NZ, however, was not checked through this stage. Upon straightening MACK PACK NZ shifted in slightly contacting the hind leg of TINNY MAHONEY and that runner, contacted a marker peg. In assessing the interference caused at the 200m to TINNY MAHONEY and the way in which both runners finished the final 200m and the margin of a short ½ head, the protest was dismissed.
