ERUPT STRIDE NZ – Pre-race blood sample. Locked wheels with THALASSOPHBIA passing the 150 metres.
THALASSOPHOBIA – Prior to the declaration of All Clear the owners of FORCE FULL approached Stewards looking for the opportunity to review the concluding stages of the event to ensure THALASSOPHOBIA had not raced inside marker pegs when obtaining a run to the inside of ERUPT STRIDE NZ. After reviewing the films of the event it was established that approaching the 150 metre THALASSOPHOBIA had commenced to improve into a run developing to the inside of ERUPT STRIDE NZ, when passing the 150 metres ERUPT STRIDE NZ shifted down the track marginally causing THALASSOPHOBIA and ERUPT STRIDE NZ to lock wheels momentarily, and once the wheels disengaged THALASSOPHOBIA continued to improve to the inside of EURPT STRIDE NZ with sufficient room to the outside of the marker pegs. After viewing the replays of the event the owners of FORCE FULL elected not to take any further action and the All Clear was given on the judges numbers of 4, 8, 1 and 6. Driver Bailey McDonough was advised to exercise greater care when improving into a run that was yet to fully develop in order to avoid locking wheels with runners forward of him. Post-race swab sample.

FERNCO NEL NZ – Pre-race blood sample. Caught racing wide in the early stages of the event before working forward to the position outside the leader approaching the 1100 metres. Stewards questioned driver Tom Callaghan with regards to the performance of the horse which weakened over the concluding stages to finish in tenth placing beaten 24 metres. Mr Callaghan advised Stewards that he was not overly disappointed with the performance of FERNCO NEL NZ after having to do a fair bit of work in the early stages in what was a pretty fast tempo. Mr Callaghan further advised that he would expect the horse to back up in the Paleface Adios next week assuming that it pulls up with no difficulties from tonight’s performance. A post-race veterinary examination of the horse failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities. After considering the explanation provided by Mr Callaghan, Stewards determined to note his comments.

After considering the recent record of the gelding, it will continue to be placed outside of the standing start draw.

RACE 9 – PRYDE’S EASIPERFORMANCE PACE – 1609 metres
SIREN SEA – Raced roughly after the start. Momentarily placed in restricted room in the run to the first turn when TIL HEAVENS ROCKN NZ was shifted down the track when not sufficiently clear of PRINCESS MICKAYLA which was racing to the outside of SIREN SEA causing SIREN SEA to be inconvenienced. Stewards questioned driver Brad Hewitt with regards to the performance of the mare which finished in sixth placing beaten 15 metres. Mr Hewitt advised Stewards that the mare does not posses good gait speed and was again slow to begin at the commencement of tonight’s event. Mr Hewitt further advised that the mare is quite roughly gaited and he was unable to drive the mare forward in the early stages of the event to hold a forward position. Mr Hewitt further explained that as a result of being further back on the marker pegs than he had hoped he was forced to improve to the outside of the leader down the back straight and race without cover which he felt was not the most suitable way to drive the mare. A post-race veterinary examination of the mare failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities. After considering the explanation provided by Mr Hewitt, Stewards determined to note his comments.
PRINCESS MICKAYLA – Pre-race blood sample. Momentarily placed in restricted room in the run to the first turn when TIL HEAVENS ROCKN NZ was shifted down the track when not sufficiently clear of PRINCESS MICKAYLA and SIREN SEA causing PRINCESS MICKAYLA to be inconvenienced.
GIMME A REASON – Withdrawn by Stewards at 9.42pm acting on veterinary advice due to being lame in the near side foreleg. In accordance with the recommendation of the veterinary surgeon the gelding was stood down for a period of 10 days and the production of a veterinary certificate of clearance.
MCWIZARD – Pre-race blood sample. Driver Bailey McDonough advised Stewards at the completion of the event that the jaw breaker affixed to the gelding had pulled through on the near side.
OUR GEORGE BOSTON – Post-race swab sample.
TIL HEAVENS ROCKN NZ – Driver Jake Bigeni was reprimanded under Rule 163(1)(a)(iii) for causing interference, in that he shifted the gelding down the track in the run to the first turn when not sufficiently clear of PRINCESS MICKAYLA and SIREN SEA causing both of those runners to be placed in restricted room momentarily and inconvenienced. Hung in passing the 400 metres.
