RACE 1 – SUMMERTINE PREMIUM POULTRY PACE – 1609 metres
KING TIGER – Leaving the 500 metres was hampered by OOGA CHAKA which was giving ground. Subsequently KING TIGER was held up and unable to obtain clear running until passing the 250 metres.
OOGA CHAKA – Approaching the 500 metres commenced to give ground and weakened over the concluding stages. When questioned, W Komorowski explained that Trainer K Pizzutto instructed him to drive the gelding forward at the start to cross DARIN NZ. W Komorowski stated that after displaying gate speed and finding the lead, he was keen to maintain the lead throughout as he believed this was the best chance of beating THE ANSWER by keeping that runner racing without cover. He added that leaving the 800 metres, OOGA CHAKA failed to travel and near the 600 metres was under pressure which was uncharacteristic. W Komorowski explained that he was not satisfied with the gelding’s last 3 starts and it was the intention of connections to send OOGA CHAKA for a spell. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be mildly lame in the off foreleg. Connections were advised OOGA CHAKA would be stood down for a period of 28 days and until a veterinary certificate is submitted.

THE VICAR OF DIBLEY NZ – Leaving the 300 metres, received slight contact to the near side sulky wheel resulting in the mare carrying a flat tyre for the remainder of the event.
HAVEYOUCHECKEDIN – Caught wide in the early stages before being restrained to the rear of the field. When questioned regarding the performance of the gelding, Driver S Grima explained that he was instructed to go forward at the start, however when he was caught wide he immediately elected to restrain to the rear of the field as he believed the position outside the leader was unobtainable. S Grima stated he then elected to shift to the marker pegs to save ground however leaving the 500 metres HAVEYOUCHECKEDIN was under pressure and failed to run on. S Grima added that post-race that connections were concerned that the gelding may have been affected by significant travel in recent weeks and would look to freshen HAVEYOUCHECKEDIN up prior to its next start. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormalities.
PICCADILLY PETE NZ – Raced keenly between the 500 metres and the 300 metres and when attempting to shift wider near the 300 metres, made slight contact with the near side sulky wheel of THE VICAR OF DIBLEY NZ. PICCADILLY PETE NZ was then unable to secure clear running until passing the 150 metres.
