After taking submissions from relevant parties and reviewing the patrol footage Stewards were of the view that no interference was suffered to CERISE RAINBOW and as such the protest was dismissed. RACE 5 – GARRARD HORSE AND HOUND PACE – 1609 metres
WALTER WARLOCK – When questioned regarding the tactics adopted in particular in the early stages of the event driver W Rixon explained to Stewards that in his opinion had been racing without luck at recent starts from bad barrier draws and with the favourable draw in tonight’s event it was the consensus from connections and himself that its best chance in the event was to attempt to lead. He further added that after beginning well and finding the marker pegs without cover was presented with a challenge from JALANEEL entering the first turn and elected to muster through and maintain his lead position however the tempo at that early stage was quite fast recording a first quarter in 25.9 seconds. Stewards noted his comments and advised that although it was a reasonable decision for him to challenge and maintain the lead position the tempo in the event was extreme and better judgement is to be shown moving forward.
JALANEEL – When questioned regarding the tactics adopted driver Z Fitzpatrick explained that it is general for her runner to be driven in forward manner and when entering the first turn had an advantage over WALTER WARLOCK which was to its inside and continued to drive for some distance given the advantage she had however, felt that the tempo was too quick and elected to ease and take cover coming into the home straight on the first occasion. Stewards noted her comments however advised driver Z Fitzpatrick that although reasonable to be driven forward in the early stages of the event the tempo of the first quarter was extreme and advised that greater judgement needs to be shown moving forward.
LACEYS LAD NZ – Post-race sample was taken.
