RACE 2 – HONOUREE DINNER AT BATHURST RSL PACE – 1730 metres
General: Stewards delayed the All Clear to allow connections of placegetters Travis Bullock (LAYLA SHANNON) Jake Davis (VAMOS) & Amanda Turnbull (ALWAYSBMYPONY) to view the available photo finish with the judge declaring a dead heat for 2nd placing between (LAYLA SHANNON & VAMOS) & a nose margin to 4th placing (ALWAYSBMYPONY). After viewing the Photo Finish all connections were satisfied with the judge’s placings.
The All Clear was further delayed when Amanda Turnbull driver of 4th placed ALWAYSBMYPONY requested to the view the available replays in the home straight where ALWAYSBMYPONY locked wheels with equal 2nd placed LAYLA SHANNON. After viewing the replays Ms Turnbull declined to take the matter any further. Stewards subsequently lodged a protest on behalf of the connections of ALWAYSBMYPONY against LAYLA SHANNON for impeding the progress of ALWAYSBMYPONY when shifting out and locking wheels with ALWAYSBMYPONY from the 100m to a point reaching the 30m when the wheels disengaged. After taking evidence from all parties which included drivers Amanda Turnbull (ALWAYSBMYPONY) ,Travis Bullock (LAYLA SHANNON) & hearing submissions from trainer Peter Bullock (LAYLA SHANNON) Stewards determined that ALWAYSBMYPONY had established clear running up until approaching the 100m where LAYLA SHANNON shifted out into the racing line of ALWAYSBMYPONY resulting in the runners locking wheels & the progress of ALWAYSBMYPONY being impeded. Stewards were comfortably satisfied had it not been for the outwards movement of LAYLA SHANNON, ALWAYSBMYPONY would of finished ahead of LAYLA SHANNON having regard to the manner in which both horses finished the event off before and after the interference & also mindful of the narrow nose margin at the finish. Stewards accordingly upheld the protest and the All Clear given on the new numbers of 1st MCLEAN (10) 2nd VAMOS (5) 3rd ALWAYSBMYPONY (9) 4th LAYLA SHANNON (1).
LAYLA SHANNON – Shifted outward upon straightening locking wheels with ALWAYSBMYPONY from the 100m to reaching the 30m before disengaging. Lost 2nd on protest. Driver Travis Bullock was reminded of his obligation in allowing his runner shift ground in the home straight.
ESTHER RISING – ($6.00) Driver Jett Turnbull was queried into the overall performance of the mare which finished in 8th position beaten 15.8m. Ms Turnbull advised the gelding to be disappointing and contributed the performance to the gelding being first up since November 2025 with a quick overall mile rate of 1.56.3 & DRIVE TO THE BEACH would derive benefit from the performance.

HES CHIMING – ($26.00) Trainer/driver Mitch Turnbull was queried into the seemingly poor performance of the gelding which finished in 10th and last position beaten 33.6m after trailing the leader throughout the event. Mr Turnbull advised the gelding to be disappointing and contributed the performance to the slow speed of the event during the first half which was recorded in 63.9 seconds before the speed increased dramatically passing the 800m where the gelding was left flat footed and was not able to sprint as the gelding is better suited to more even speed throughout. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. No Claims lodged

MIKE ROSS NZ – Inconvenienced & raced roughly momentarily passing the 1700m when the speed of the event eased in the running line. Pulled hard during the early & middle stages of the event.
SHEZ SWEET LOUISE NZ – ($8.50) Inconvenienced passing the 1200m when the speed in the running line appeared to slacken. Driver Isobel Ross was queried into the tactics adopted upon the mare in particular her decision when improving three (3) wide passing the 900m and when obtaining the position outside the leader passing the 700m and her decision to place undue pressure to the mare & the leader (MIKI BE GOOD) in recording a quick third quarter of 27.3 seconds where soon after passing the 400m SHEZ SWEET LOUISE NZ was placed under immediate pressure and gave ground to finish in 9th position beaten 31m. Ms Ross advised when she improved to the outside of the leader MIKI BE GOOD she was relucted to take hold of the mare as at its most recent start when the mare was eased SHEZ SWEET LOUISE NZ failed to race in a genuine manner & felt in the best interest of the mare to allow keep striding along as the speed of the event had been slow and SHEZ SWEET LOUISE NZ would be able to maintain sustained run, however the mare again was placed under pressure from the 400m and gave ground which Ms Ross was disappointed in the overall performance of SHEZ SWEET LOUISE NZ. After reviewing the available replays & the comments of Ms Ross Stewards advised Ms Ross that she had erred significantly in her tactics and in applying the amount of pressure she did after obtaining the position outside the leader and would be expected to show greater judgement going forward as Stewards would not expect to see SHEZ SWEET LOUISE NZ driven in such aggressive manner going forward until the mare demonstrated it could performed more competitively after it most recent starts. FLOYDY BOY – ($17.00) Trainer/driver Olivia Frisby was queried into the tactics adopted upon the gelding in particular if she gave consideration to obtaining a trail when CENTREFIRE improved forward passing the 1600m and her decision to maintain the position outside the leader. Prior to finishing in 6th position beaten 20.2m. Ms Frisby advised it was her intentions to restrain the gelding after the start however after the false start the gelding became agitated therefore elected to improve forward. Ms Frisby explained she was intending to obtain a trail in the event as CENTREFIRE improved forward, she attempted to improve to the lead and surrender to CENTREFIRE however when she improved forward it was apparent the leader DUFFY HOLLOW NZ was pulling extremely hard & would not be able to be restrained therefore she took hold of FLOYDY BOY however when doing so CENTREFIRE had already be taken hold of & commend to be restrained to the rear of the field. Therefore, leaving FLOYDY BOY racing without cover. After viewing the available replays which supported the comments of Ms Frisby stewards felt the tactics were not unreasonable in the circumstances and took the matter no further. Mr Turnbull advised after attempting to improve forward passing the 1700m he was unable to find the position outside the leader when FLOYDY BOY improved forward to maintain that position where he had to taken hold of the gelding and restrained to the rear of the field as he felt CENTREFIRE has performed best for the stable when able to lead or be positioned outside the leader which was the main contributing factor to the geldings performance.
