SHEVCHENKO – Pre-race swab sampled. Raced three wide from the start before being restrained to the rear of the field leaving the 1000 metres and commenced to lose ground from the main body of the field approaching the 600 metres and was beaten by a considerable margin. Driver E Turnbull was questioned regarding her tactics and the performance of the mare, she stated that prior to the race the instructions from the Trainer were to go forward in an attempt to lead, however that did not eventuate when they were beaten for early speed by runners to her inside. She added that rounding the first turn she was of the view that the position outside the leader was available with the Driver of VAMOS, O Frisby appearing as though she was looking to get cover at that stage. She further added that after leaving the 1200 metres while in the straight she attempted to drive the mare forward to get ahead of VAMOS but her runner did not quicken as she expected it to, and near the 1000 metres it was apparent that VAMOS was not going to surrender its position so she restrained to obtain cover at the rear of the field. E Turnbull further added that the mare did not respond to her urgings after getting cover and pick the bit back up and she was disappointed with its run from that point. A post-race Veterinary examination of the mare did not reveal any abnormalities, although it was reported that it had a slower than normal recovery.
