APEX STRIDE – Stewards questioned trainer/driver S Hewitt in relation to the performance of the horse when failing to run on over the concluding stages to be beaten 37.9 metres and finished in tenth position.  Trainer/driver S Hewitt explained that the horse obtained a comfortable lead and approaching the 600 metres commenced to lock onto the near side rein and from that point failed to travel genuinely.  Mr Hewitt explained that upon return he noticed the tongue tie on the horse had dislodged during the run and felt this may have contributed to the horse’s overall performance.  Mr Hewitt added that prior to the horse’s next race start he will make some gear adjustments.  Stewards noted his comments.  A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities.

LETSTACOBOUTIT – Stewards questioned driver D Cernovsis in relation to the tactics adopted in particular his decision to Improve three wide from the 1000 metres and was then caught racing three wide for the remainder of the event.  Driver D Cernovskis explained that considering the tempo of the event he did not feel that the gelding was any chance from being racing back as far as it was looking to improve his drive however as he noted that the horse racing outside of the leader (TREBELLION) had done a fair amount of early work during the early stages and felt that the position outside of the leader may have been available.  Mr Cernoviskis explained that leaving the 800 metres it became apparent that the position was not going to be available however considering the distance remaining did not feel it would be in his best interest to restrain and allowed his horse to continue under its own terms from this point.  Stewards noted his comments.

RONZEL SONNY – Improved three wide with a trail from the 1000 metres.  Post-race swab sample.
