KIMCANDO – Raced three wide without cover for the majority of the race. Trainer/Driver C Rauchenberger was questioned regarding the tactics adopted, in particular whether there was an opportunity to obtain cover in the running line at the rear of the field near the 1200 metres. She stated that the mare can be difficult to drive as it races best when able to obtain a forward position however does not have great early speed from the mobile. She added that she normally drives the mare in the manner she has today in that they work forward after the start to obtain a forward position, as whenever she has driven it back with cover it hasn’t performed well in her view. She further added that when DIAMOND ECLIPSE got to the position outside the leader ahead of her, it appeared to be sitting back from the leader, and the pace was not quick so near the 1200 metres felt that position was available and elected to continue to work forward three wide in an endeavour to obtain that position from it. C Rauchenberger added that near the 1000 metres when they improved to the outside of DIAMOND ECLIPSE it kicked up and held her out and the pace of the race increased again. She further added that after leaving that point going back to last would not have been beneficial to her runner so allowed it to run along under its own steam without overly pressuring it and was not too disappointed with its run given the circumstances. Stewards noted her explanation. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.
