RACE 4 – VALE MARGRET MCKINNON PACE – 1720 metres

LOYOLA GOLF – When questioned in relation to the tactics adopted and the overall performance, Driver J Turnbull explained, that in accordance with the gelding’s established racing pattern, it was his intention to lead, and he drove with vigour after the start in an attempt to achieve this. He said he was unable to cross TULHURST TIMMY to his inside and entering the back straight attempted to restrain and ease the tempo, which had been solid to that point. He said during this time, LOYOLA GOLF raced fiercely, would not settle and despite his constant restraint, over raced which resulted in it weakening inside the 500 metres. His explanation was accepted. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding displayed a slow recovery. Connections were advised a warning would be placed on LOYOLA GOLF’S racing record.

THEYCALLMEBRUCE – When questioned in relation to the tactics adopted, Trainer/Driver Mr G Rue explained, that his intention was to obtain a forward position with cover, if possible, due to the gelding’s tendency to be one paced. He said he drove with vigour after the start, however, was trapped wide rounding the turn approaching the back straight and when he noticed DUFFY HOLLOW NZ being restrained at the head of the running line, he again drove with vigour in an attempt to obtain the position outside the lead. He said he was unable to achieve this and was trapped 3 wide passing the 1000 metres and at this time he elected to allow THEYCALLMEBRUCE to stride freely without pressure. He said the gelding continued to travel well, albeit one paced and was then hampered momentarily approaching the home turn when being steadied to avoid DEEPWATER CAM which shifted into its line momentarily. He said after this THEYCALLMEBRUCE continued in the run to the finish in a one paced manner and he stated that if the gelding received a favourable barrier draw in its upcoming racing it would be driven with vigour in the early stages to obtain a forward position.

HAZZA IS WATCHING – Post-race swab sample.

WILLIES DOLLAR – Pre-race blood sample.

RACE 5 – SHIRE BAR AND GILL PACE – 1720 metres

SPEARHEAD – pre-race blood sample. When questioned in relation to the performance, Trainer/Driver Mr M Turnbull said despite racing in a prominent position with cover throughout, the gelding was disappointing and weakened in the run to the finish. He could offer no excuse for this and intended to consult with connections relative to an ongoing racing preparation with the prospect of it leaving his stable. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. Mr Turnbull was advised a poor performance warning would be placed on the gelding’s racing record.

PEAKSART – Jostled with IRK MCGLURK for a short distance inside the 500 metres.

FIFTY THREE STARS – Post-race swab sample.

RACE 6 – AURORA PARK PERFORMANCE HORSES PACE – 1720 metres

MONSTER MINT – Unable to obtain clear running at any stage inside the 200 metres and went to the finish without being tested.

LAMNA NASUS – Pulled hard during the early stages and raced fiercely when entering the back straight on the first occasion when attempting to obtain cover. Held up in the home straight and unable to be tested.

LLANFAIR ROCKY – Raced ungenerously for some distance when being restrained after entering the back straight on the first occasion. Held up over the concluding stages and unable to be driven to the finish.

HAPPY TULHURST – Pre-race blood sample. Post-race swab sample.

RACE 7 – FUR LIFE VET PACE – 1720 metres

CHANSU – post-race swab sample.

TULHURST ELVIS – pre-race blood sample. Sustained a flat tyre passing the 500 metres when contacted by SURFIN AT MIDNIGHT when both runners shifted ground resulting in SURFIN AT MIDNIGHT being unable to be restrained sufficiently to avoid the contact. Driver A Hurst’s left foot dropped below the sulky rest for some distance approaching the home turn as she attempted to adjust her weight to maintain forward momentum with a flat tyre.

AARON MINT – Could not be driven into position at the start. Connections were advised the horse would continue to be placed outside the mobile barrier draw.

CALM FRANCO – Broke stride and galloped during the score up. Connections were advised the gelding would continue to be placed outside the mobile barrier draw.

RACE 8 – GALLAGHER PACE – 1720 metres

BABY EL AY – Pre-race blood sample. When questioned in relation to the performance, Driver E Turnbull explained that after establishing the lead at the entrance to the back straight she intended to maintain it however when challenged by XCALIBUR, she felt that that colt was travelling too strongly for her to maintain the lead and she elected to allow it to cross. She said after this BABY EL AY travelled comfortably, however when placed under pressure in the home straight was unresponsive and ran to the finish in a disappointing manner. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

XCALIBUR – post-race swab sample.

SING WITH ONE VOICE – Raced roughly for a short distance after the start.

DONTRATTLEHISCAGE – Had to be checked entering the back straight on the first occasion when racing tight to the inside of WICKED STRIKE, which shifted in when not quite clear. Subsequently, N Hurst, the trainer/Driver of WICKED STRIKE was reprimanded under Rule 163(1)(a)(iii).

BURRABADINE BELLE – Hung in after the entering the back straight on the first occasion and when being corrected had to be checked and broke stride after sustaining contact from SING WITH ONE VOICE, which shifted in marginally when not clear. Subsequently, L Burns the Trainer/Driver of SING WITH ONE VOICE was reprimanded under Rule 163(1)(a)(iii).
