He added that he had to do too much work rounding the first turn to try and hold FLUTTERING ANGEL out to attempt to lead throughout, however after getting cover and with the middle sectionals of the last mile being moderate felt the gelding was somewhat disappointing over the concluding stages.

NOOGALEEK OFFKILTA – Contacted the sulky wheel of ARCHIE ON BY leaving the 400 metres and broke gait.  At a subsequent inquiry driver M McCaffery pleaded guilty to a charge under Rule 168(1)(a) for careless driving in that leaving the 400 metres he made insufficient effort to prevent the filly from improving up onto the back of VALENTINE GIRL and as a result he then shifted the filly in and it contacted the sulky wheel of ARCHIE ON BY and broke gait.  In assessing penalty Stewards took into account M McCaffery’s guilty plea, his good driving record with regards to this rule and the particular circumstances of the incident.  Driver M McCaffery had his licence to drive in races suspended for a period of seven days.

A post-race veterinary examination of the filly did not reveal any significant abnormalities. Connections were advised the filly would be required to perform a requalifying trial.
