SUPPLEMENTARY – NEWCASTLE – 22 MAY 2026

RACE 5 – MITAVITE PACE – 1609 metres

KANENA PROVLIMA – When questioned regarding the tactics adopted in particular the early stages of the event trainer/driver K Morris explained to Stewards it was the intention given the drop in grade to be driven aggressively in an attempt for the lead position.  She further added that after the start began, began fairly with SAINT CRUSADER drawn inside having the advantage going into the first turn.  She further added that she continued to apply pressure in hope that that runner would surrender the lead position.  She further added that after this was unsuccessful continued to race outside of the leader with genuine speed in the event as she thought this was its best chance in the event.  She further went on to state that her runner ran well over the concluding stages and battled on into third position.  Stewards noted her comments however felt that she had erred in the amount of pressure placed on her runner in the early and middle part of the event and advised that greater judgement shall be shown moving forward.  Driver K Morris was further fined the sum of $100 under Rule 187(3) for failing to abide by a direction to remain on course for questioning post-race.

 

RACE 1 – SKY RACING ACTIVE WARATAH HEAT – 1609 metres

FRANKIROMAR – Pre-race sample was taken.  Post-race sample was taken.

TWO CRACKED CORN – Driver J Coney was reprimanded under rule 163(1)(a)(iii) in that when entering the first turn closed down the track and restricted the racing room of NIFTY STUDLEIGH to which driver B Elder was obliged to restrain.

ULTIMATE RHAPSODY – Gear malfunction in the early stages of the score up which required attention resulting in a false start being declared. 

NIFTY STUDLEIGH – Examined pre and post-race by the veterinarian with no abnormalities reported.  Tightened for racing room and was hampered entering the first turn.

ANTETOKOUNMPO – Broke the near side lugging pole at approximately the 800 metres.

 

RACE 2 – SOMERSET MEATS PACE – 2030 metres

TOORAM CEE CEE – Post-race sample was taken.

FOR ALWAYS ARDEN NZ – Pre-race sample was taken.  Re-included into the mobile barrier draw.  When questioned regarding the performance driver V Duncan explained to Stewards that although was first up in the event was somewhat disappointed in its efforts over the concluding stages when asked for an effort.  A post-race veterinary examination could not reveal any abnormalities.

CHEDDAR VALLEY NZ – Examined pre and post-race by the veterinarian with no abnormalities reported.  Had a tendency to over race in the early and middle stages.

YESNOMAYBESO – Examined pre and post-race by the veterinarian with no abnormalities reported.

 

RACE 3 – NUTRIEN EQUINE STANDARDBRED SALES PACE – 1609 metres

HEAVENLY WAGE – Pre-race sample was taken.

RADIANT AMBER – Examined pre and post-race by the veterinarian with no abnormalities reported.

THE CID – Held up for clear running in the early stages of the run to the finish.  When questioned regarding the tactics inside the final 400 metres driver M Callaghan explained that when rounding the final turn RADIANT AMBER was not travelling all that well and elected to move to the inside.  He further added that after upon straightening looked to manoeuvre SWEET ROCKY wider on the track however HEAVENLY WAGE had commenced to weaken to which he lost his advantage obliging him to shift back towards the inside to which his runner battled on over the concluding stages fairly.  Stewards noted his comments.

RACE 4 – INTERNATIONAL ANIMAL HEALTH PACE – 1609 metres

CAPTAIN GROOVE – Examined pre and post-race by the veterinarian with no abnormalities reported.  Held up for clear running in the latter stages of the run to the finish.

ROCKNROLL GIG – Post-race sample was taken.

SPIRIT KING – Pre-race sample was taken.

 

RACE 5 – TOOHEYS PACE – 1609 metres

LIGHT ME UP NZ – Pre-race sample was taken.

METALLICA MAN – Had a tendency to hang out whilst under pressure over the concluding stages.

SURFERS DELIGHT NZ – Post-race sample was taken.

 

RACE 6 – CARMER STANDARDBREDS 3YO PACE – 1609 metres

MERRYWOOD LOU – Had a tendency to over race during the middle stages of the event.

SIERRA MIST – Tightened for racing room shortly after the start was affected.

JOE BOY – Had a tendency to hang in shortly after the start was affected.

SILENT FEARS – Pre-race sample was taken.  Post-race sample was taken.

 

RACE 7 – GARRARDS HORSE AND HOUND PACE – 1609 metres

SAINT KARAMARA – Held up for clear running over the concluding stages and not fully tested.

JACQUELINE ROSE NZ – Held up for clear running over the concluding stages and not fully tested.

MAYWYNS MIGHTY MAC – Pre-race sample was taken.

NEXT TO ME NZ – Post-race sample was taken.

D J ROCK NZ – Gave ground over the concluding stages to be beaten some distance after having a tendency to over race in the early stages of the event whilst caught three wide.  A post-race veterinary examination could not reveal any abnormalities.

BRING YOUR BEST – Held up for clear running over the concluding stages and not fully tested.

 

RACE 8 – THE TAB APP PACE – 2030 metres

LOUTHPARKSCHOONER – Hampered rounding the final turn when trailing weakening runners.

HOWITIS – Weakened over the concluding stages to be beaten some distance.  A post-race veterinary examination revealed it to have cardiac arrhythmia.  Acting under the provisions of rule 101C(a) connections were advised that it would be stood down for a period of 14 days pending the receipt of a veterinary certificate inclusive of the results of an ECG and until the completion of one requalifying trial.

ESPERANZA – Pre-race sample was taken.  Post-race sample was taken.

REIGN MAKER – Examined pre and post-race by the veterinarian with no abnormalities reported.
