General
Driver of LUCKY JESS (E Turnbull), second past the post advised Stewards at the all clear she wished to view the films in relation to any interference caused over the final 100 metres. After viewing the footage with trainer J Turnbull, Mr Turnbull elected to lodge a protest against first placegetter KARINYA JEE alleging interference over the final 100 metres. After taking evidence from Mr Turnbull, Ms E Turnbull and KARINYA JEE’S driver M Rue, Stewards determined that inside the final 50 metres, KARINYA JEE had shifted down the track tightening the running of LUCKY JESS and a short time later locked wheels with that runner hindering it`s forward momentum. Considering how both runners finished the race and the head margin, stewards believed that if this incident had not occurred that LUCKY JESS would have finished in advance of KARINYA JEE and as such the protest was upheld and all clear was given on the judges numbers.
COMPLIMENTARY DRINK – Leaving the 1400 metres broke stride. Considering the gelding’s recent record, it will be stood down for a period of 14 days and must also requalify on two occasions prior to racing.

Miss Formosa stated when the pace came out of the race after a fast lead time she elected to work forward to race outside the leader where the gelding has won when racing in that position in previous starts and with a reasonably moderate middle half of the race the gelding was disappointing when placed under pressure over the final 400 metres. He was then able to get an easy third quarter in 29.2 where he then believed the gelding would be able to run a fast last quarter but was very disappointed when failing to finish off as expected in a moderate last quarter of 29.6.
