'Hollywood' Hewitt back on home soil

4 August 2021

GOULBURN trainer-driver Brad Hewitt has just returned from a two-month hiatus in Queensland where he campaigned with a team of pacers from his stable and doubled as caretaker trainer of a couple of others from the barn of his father David.

“I had a great time up there too,” said Hewitt.
“Send It and Rockin Marty were the main reasons why I went up there and both performed exceptionally well.
“Send It produced some massive runs in the races that he contested and topped the trip off by winning at his last start at Albion Park on July 24.
“Although he finished back in the pack in the two feature races he contested, he was not beaten all that far and I was really happy with his efforts.
“Dad’s horse, Rockin Marty, proved he was a serious Grand Circuit horse as he went within a stride of winning both the Sunshine Sprint and the Blacks a Fake.
“There was only a head margin between him and Copy That in the Sprint and then Amazing Dream got the better run and was able to beat him by just over a metre in the Blacks a Fake.
“Smooth Sailor was another one I had up there for Dad, and he was able to win at Albion Park as well.
“Both Send It and Rockin Marty are now enjoying a well-earned break in the paddock.
“After he is freshened up, I will be preparing Send It for a few races at Menangle to keep him ticking over before we have a crack at the home state Inter Dominion.
“Dad has put the Victoria Cup on the agenda for Rockin Marty before he will also be prepared for a crack at the Inter Dominion.”
Now back on familiar turf, Hewitt is heading up to Bathurst tonight where he has three drives.
“Dancelikeanangel is easily my best chance of winning,” he said.
“She has drawn barrier one, which is the most favourable draw she has had in recent starts.
“I will look to take advantage of that and place her in a prominent spot up near the front.
“She is a better sit-sprint mare, so hopefully I will have a few options.
“Roscommon Rose meets a handy field in Race 4, but she is an honest type, while I partner consistent gelding Bridge Coin for Bern in Race 6.”
