Age no obstacle for Grey Cadillac

PAUL COURTS

AGE is proving no obstacle for Grey Cadillac.

In fact, like a fine win, Grey Cadillac appears to be getting better with age.
Just days away from his 13th birthday, Grey Cadillac was triumphant at Penrith to continue his most successful season.
Trained by astute horseman Troy Williams, the sprightly 12-year-old notched his seventh win for the term, with his previous best five victories in 2024 as a 10-year-old!
Fourth upon debut in February 2016, Grey Cadillac has had 254 subsequent starts which have netted 29 wins and 44 placings for earnings of $214,858
"He just keeps on keeping on," Williams said. "That run in Penrith was his 37th for the year and he just backs up and goes again.
"He has been pretty consistent his whole career and just thrives on racing.
"He's showing no signs of slowing down either. He won at Albion Park earlier this year in 1:53.9, which is a career best time."
With Cooper Griffiths in the cart, Grey Cadillac was settled two-back along the pegs from his inside of the second row draw as King Corey led from barrier four.
Brilliantly weaved through traffic leaving the back straight, the son of Rocknroll Hanover unleashed a scintillating sprint to score by two metres from the pacemaker.
Hesaa Lister, a David Waite-trained stablemate of the runner-up, was a metre-and-a-half away third.
"He looked like he was in all sorts of trouble down the back," Williams said. "Cooper did a great job to get him into the clear, and once he was in the open, he just took off and hit the line hard."
Grey Cadillac will head around at Penrith tonight (Thursday) in Race 7.
