GENERAL – Due to the significant rainfall a track inspection was conducted at 1pm and the track was passed suitable for racing.  Due to further significant rainfall, up to and following 2.30pm, significant remedial track works were required to be undertaken where upon completion a further inspection was conducted and the track deemed suitable for the meeting to proceed.

 

SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT

DUBBO – 24 NOVEMBER 2023

RACE 7 – JOE SHALOUB GILGANDRA WINDMILL PACE – 1720 metres

Nathan Turnbull, driver of LADY VEE, pleaded guilty to a charge under Rule 156(2)(a) that inside the final 200 metres Mr Turnbull used the whip with more than a wrist only flicking motion.  In assessing penalty Stewards took into account Mr Turnbull had one recent offence and accordingly imposed a fine of $400

 

RACE 1 – BATHURST RSL CLUB SOLDIERS SADDLE HEAT 1 – 1730 metres

HOOKED ON WINNING NZ – Held up inside the final 200 metres.

LEAH SHANNON – Post-race swab sample.

OLIVIA SHANNON – Broke during the score up and was out of position at the start and a warning was issued.

WATTOSBLAZEOFGLORY – Pre-race blood sample.  Trainer/driver Wayne Watterson was questioned regarding the performance of the gelding which finished in eighth placing beaten 20 metres.  Mr Watterson advised that he was disappointed with the gelding’s performance and he attributed the gelding’s failure to run on over the concluding stages to WATTOSBLAZEOFGLORY not appreciating the quick back up from racing at Dubbo on 24 November 2023 five days prior.  Mr Watterson advised he would look to space the gelding’s runs out further in future.  A post-race veterinary examination of WATTOSBLAZEOFGLORY failed to reveal any significant findings.

HALL STITCHED UP – Over raced during the middle stages.

 

RACE 2 – CLUB MENANGLE WARATAH HEAT – 1730 metres

TAKE A HIKE NZ – Underwent pre and post-race veterinary examinations due to the gelding not having started in the previous 12 months.  These examinations did not reveal any significant findings.

BEE OKAY – Trainer/driver Mat Rue was questioned regarding the performance of the mare which finished in eighth placing beaten 20 metres.  Mr Rue advised that in his view the mare was not suited to being positioned outside the leader and is better suited to racing on the smaller 800 metre tracks.

TULHURST WRITER – Pre-race blood sample.

IM ANN MAREE NZ – Had difficulty in fully securing clear running inside the final 200 metres.

 

RACE 3 – NSWBC REGIONAL 3YO COLTS AND GELDINGS HEAT – 1730 metres

TITIWAH – Post-race swab sample.

SMOOTH BUZZ – Pre-race blood sample. 

PUPPETEER – Broke clear of interference passing the 300 metres resulting in POPS LEGACY being inconvenienced.  A warning was placed on the record of PUPPETEER

POPS LEGACY – Out of position at the start and paced roughly for some distance shortly after the start was affected.  POPS LEGACY will continue to be placed outside the draw in future mobile start events.  Broke under pressure shortly after straightening.  In view of the gelding’s recent record, POPS LEGACY will now be stood down from racing until trialling to the satisfaction of Stewards.

HORN PLAYER – Driver Matt Rue was fined $50 under Rule 162(1)(j) for failing to maintain his position until the start was affected.  Trainer/driver Mat Rue was questioned regarding the performance of the colt which finished in sixth placing beaten 14 metres.  Mr Rue advised he was disappointed with the performance of HORN PLAYER and advised the colt would now be spelled. 

 

RACE 4 – THE DIGGERS BAR @ BATHURST RSL CLUB PACE – 1730 metres

ULAANBAATAR – Pre-race blood sample.

ALTA EQUUS – Held up rounding the home turn in the early part of the straight.

PAS DE CHEVAL – Post-race swab sample.

TULHURST TERROR – Declared a late scratching at 3.34pm acting on veterinary advice.

BLUE SUEDE ROCKA – Driver Jett Turnbull was questioned regarding the performance of the gelding which on face value appeared to be disappointing.  Mr Turnbull advised BLUE SUEDE ROCKA over raced during the early and middle stages which in his view told on the gelding.

 

RACE 5 – THE GRIND @ BATHURST RSL CLUB PACE – 1730 metres

COURT ON THE EDGE NZ – Held up inside the final 100 metres.

ROMERO – Over raced during the middle stages.

EMMAS BOY NZ – Post-race swab sample.

MYRA DAWN – Held up inside the final 100 metres.

CAMANCHI WARRIOR – Pre-race blood sample.

CASSIUS DECK – Over raced during the middle stages.

 

RACE 6 – BATHURST RSL CLUB SOLDIERS SADDLE HEAT 2 – 1730 metres

OUR UNCLE HAROLD – Driver Jett Turnbull advised the gelding over raced during the middle stages, hung in badly rounding the final turn and as a result proved difficult to drive.  A warning was placed on the record of OUR UNCLE HAROLD.

THE VIXEN NZ – Paced roughly for some distance after the start and a warning was issued.  Post-race swab sample.

UNCLE CRAIGO – Hung in and contacted marker pegs approaching the 200 metres.

OH ONE JOB – Pre-race blood sample.

 

RACE 7 – BATHURST RSL CLUB SOLDIERS SADDLE HEAT 3 – 1730 metres

WORKS FOR ME NZ – Pre-race blood sample.  Post-race swab sample.

ERIC THE KICKER – Checked passing the 500 metres when held up behind JOSEY MINT which commenced to tire. 

JOSEY MINT – Trainer/Driver Peter Wood was questioned regarding the tactics adopted on the mare in particular his decision to progress forward at the start and as to whether consideration was given to obtaining a position following the leader WORKS FOR ME NZ approaching the 1200 metres.  Mr Wood explained that JOSEY MINT had begun well and for this reason he allowed the mare to progress forward as he felt he would be able to obtain the position outside the leader as opposed to being caught wide or obliged to restrain to the rear of the field.  Mr Wood added he did not feel there was sufficient room for him to obtain the positon following WORKS FOR ME NZ ahead of THE ACCIDENTAL ONE and for this reason remained outside the leader at the 1200 metres. Mr Wood added that upon securing the position outside the leader JOSEY MINT commenced to over race approaching the 1000 metres and contacted the sulky with its hind leg which resulted in the mare over racing further.  Mr Wood further explained he left the hopple shorteners in JOSEY MINT until approaching the 500 metres consistent with his usual tactics and advised the hopples are only shortened by approximately one inch.  A post-race veterinary examination of JOSEY MINT failed to reveal any significant findings.  Upon consideration of the available evidence Stewards advised Mr Wood that in the circumstances he erred in allowing the mare to progress forward shortly after the start noting that JOSEY MINT was significantly outclassed in this event and advised that in light of the mare’s recent form and the performance displayed this evening it would not be expected that JOSEY MINT would be driven in an aggressive manner in the near future until the mare displays an ability to finish the race off in a competitive fashion.  Stewards further ordered that JOSEY MINT must trial to the satisfaction of Stewards on one occasion prior to racing again.

BEER MONEY – Checked passing the 600 metres when held up behind JOSEY MINT which commenced to tire.

BO DUKE NZ – Checked passing the 600 metres when held up behind JOSEY MINT which commenced to tire.

INFINITY BEACH – Raced roughly and broke for a short distance passing the 600 metres.  In view of the mare’s recent record INFINITY BEACH will now be stood down from racing for a period of 14 days and until trialling to the satisfaction of Stewards on two occasions.

 

RACE 8 – HRNSW GUARANTEED 2YO PACE – 1730 metres

FOGWATCH – Tired over the concluding stages to be beaten in excess of 100 metres.  A post-race veterinary examination of FOGWATCH failed to reveal any significant findings.  Connections were advised that FOGWATCH will be required to trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to racing again.

MISS PENDLE HILL – Paced roughly after the start and a warning was issued.  Inconvenienced when the pace eased approaching the 1000 metres and broke as a consequence.

RACE 9 – THE BISTRO @ BATHURST RSL CLUB PACE – 2260 metres

ROCKU – Post-race swab sample.

TAKE OUT – Over raced during the middle stages.

PEAKSART – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination at the request of trainer Mick Bolam which revealed no significant findings.

DANCE BABY DANCE – Pre-race blood sample.

 

RACE 10 –NSWBC REGIONAL 3YO FILLIES HEAT – 1730 metres

GO GO GANOOSH – Shifted out slightly shortly after passing the 200 metres resulting in TULHURST JANET which had hung in being tightened and shifting out making contact with the sulky of WINDY HILL TARA resulting in TULHURST JANET being checked.

TULHURST JANET – Checked passing the 200 metres. Driver Angela Hurst explained she attempted to restrain the filly approaching the 1000 metres in order to obtain cover from WINDY HILL TARA, however TULHURST JANET commenced to over race.  Ms Hurst added that she attempted to take an additional grip on the reins approaching the 900 metres however was unable to suitably restrain TULHURST JANET in order to allow WINDY HILL TARA to progress forward.  Ms Hurst added that passing the 800 metres when unable to fully restrain TULHURST JANET she maintained her position to the inside of WINDY HILL TARA mindful of the minimal distance left to travel.

WINDY HILL TARA – Raced three wide for the entirety of the event.  Post-race swab sample.

 

RACE 11 – NSWBC REGIONAL 3YO FILLIES HEAT – 1730 metres

OLIVEIRA – Inconvenienced during the score up and broke as a consequence.  Driver Amanda Turnbull was questioned regarding the performance of the filly which finished in fifth placing beaten 60 metres.  Ms Turnbull explained that in her view the performance was attributed to the fast tempo throughout which resulted in a relatively fast mile rate of 1:55.4 seconds being recorded.

IMLIKA – Pre-race blood sample.  Broke during the score up and a warning was issued.

SPORTY MARY – Post-race swab sample.

CALL ME MILLIE – Over raced during the middle stages.

SAVEEON – Broke during the middle stages of the score up and was out of positon at the start.  In view of the filly’s recent record, SAVEEON will now be placed outside the draw in future mobile start events.  Driver Ashlee Grives was questioned regarding the tactics adopted on the filly in particular her decision to pursue inside runs throughout the event.  Mrs Grives advised that due to SAVEEON losing approximately 50 metres at the start as a result of the filly breaking gait she endeavoured to drive the filly as conservatively as possible thereafter as SAVEEON had weakened over the concluding stages after missing the start at its most recent start at Bathurst on 22 November 2023.  Mrs Grives further added that when pursing inside runs inside the final 600 metres she was somewhat confident that SAVEEON would be afforded every opportunity thereafter as she was following the two favoured runners in the event being SPORTY MARY and OLIVEIRA, however midway rounding the turn OLIVEIRA failed to finish the race off as expected and as a consequence SAVEEON was held up for some distance until shortly after straightening where the filly finished the race off well into third placing.  Upon consideration of the matter, noting the significant ground SAVEEON had lost prior to the start, Stewards did not feel the tactics adopted in the circumstances were unreasonable and took the matter no further.

LADY ROCKABELLUM – Broke passing the 600 metres and a warning was issued.
