POPS SECRET – when questioned in relation to the performance Trainer / Driver Mr T Ison explained, that despite travelling comfortably in the lead the gelding was unresponsive when placed under pressure inside the 400m and ran to the finish in a disappointing manner. He said that POPS SECRET had only entered his stable 6 days previously and he was not totally familiar with its habits and would monitor recovery and trackwork prior to assessing a future racing program. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormality.

HEAVEN FAST – raced ungenerously in the early stages. When questioned in relation to the performance, Driver A Varga stated that the mare was difficult to drive and chocked down and began to weaken passing the 700m, prior to be retired. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormality. Connections were advised that prior to racing again HEAVEN FAST must perform tractably and competitively in an official qualifying trial.

SUPERIOR ART – broke stride free of any external factors rounding the turn after the start and galloped for some distance. Connections were advised that the provision of last chance to race truly would be placed on the gelding’s racing record.

DOUBLE MACH – was unable to be driven into position at the start. Considering the circumstances, no action was taken. Was crowded and had to be steadied passing the winning post with a lap remaining when racing inside WHENS LUNCH, which was shifted in abruptly to avoid HEAVEN FAST.

Again, broke stride during the score up when the race was restarted, however was able to establish its correct position prior to the start. FOUR FEATHERS – When questioned in relation to the tactics adopted entering the back straight on the first occasion, Driver B Hughes explained that he had intended to lead if possible, however he felt the tempo was too strong passing the 1400m and he eased and  attempted to take the position behind the lead, however NIGHT TO REMEMBER improved quickly to his inside at this time which precluded him from doing so. He said that after this he was challenged on his outside by BODYLINE, he decided to resist that challenge and drove forward, as in his opinion BODYLINE was an unsuitable runner to follow.

LOCKITINEDDY – When questioned in relation to the performance, Driver Miss K Langelaar explained that from her rearward position she was forced to attempt to improve wide on the track inside the 500 metres and after shifting to the outside of the field the gelding was unresponsive and ran to the finish in a disappointing manner.

BODYLINE – When questioned in relation to the tactics adopted, particularly in the early and middle stages, Driver J Coney explained that she had been instructed to obtain a forward position after the start and drove with vigour to achieve this. She said that rounding the turn after the start she felt that she would obtain the position outside the lead when she observed the driver of FOUR FEATHERS ease and attempt to cross to the marker pegs. She stated that when because of NIGHT TO REMEMBER obtaining the position behind the leader she was trapped wide and elected to continue her push to go forward to avoid being forced to cover excessive ground, however she could not cross FOUR FEATHERS which had improved on her inside and was trapped wide thereafter. She said that because of her wide racing line she ceased applying vigour to her drive and allowed it to stride comfortably despite her circumstances. She said that whilst she was not disappointed in the gelding’s performance, the run it received in transit attributed significantly to its finishing position.

NIGHT TO REMEMBER – Pre-race blood sample.

SINBINNED – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be 3/5 lame in the off foreleg. Connections were advised a stand down period of 14 days would be applied and prior to racing again SINBINNED must undergo a veterinary examination to determine its fitness.

PRINCESS REMI – Sustained a flat tyre approaching the winning post with a lap remaining and weakened thereafter. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

CAPTAIN GROOVE – Hampered and had to be steadied near the 500 metres when attempting to avoid PRINCESS REMI which was weakening.

RACING PAULA – Placed 3rd, Driver C McElhinney lodged a protest against JAYJAYBENNY being declared the winner. In dismissing the objection, it was determined that at the entrance to the home straight RACING PAULA was in a position where it was able to attempt to move ROCK FISHERMAN wider to enable RACING PAULA to improve around JAYJAYBENNY, however during this time JAYJAYBENNY hung out prior to RACING PAULA properly establishing itself to a position of gaining clearance between ROCK FISHERMAN and JAYJAYBENNY and whilst it was conceded that the incident prevented RACING PAULA from the possibility of obtaining second place, it could not comfortably be established that had the incident not occurred, RACING PAULA would have finished ahead of JAYJAYBENNY. Subsequently, J Coney the driver of JAYJAYBENNY pleaded guilty to a charge under Rule 162(1) (www), stating that in the home straight she failed to make sufficient effort to prevent JAYJAYBENNY from shifting wider on the track which impeded the run of RACING PAULA.

JILLIBY AMIGO – Broke stride free of any external factors near the 200 metres. Trainer/Driver Miss G Panella was advised a warning would be placed on the gelding’s racing record.

RACE 8 – JOHNS AUTO SERVICE PACE – 1980 metres
