Mr Callaghan advised Stewards that in his opinion the performance of the gelding was somewhat disappointing. Mr Callaghan added that the gelding appeared to travel well until placed under pressure at the 600 metres where it immediately came off the bridle. A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities. After considering the explanation provided by Mr Callaghan, Stewards determined to note his comments.

Stewards questioned Driver Jye Coney with regards to the performance of the gelding which gave ground over the concluding stages to finish in 10th placing beaten 48 metres. Mr Coney advised Stewards the gelding over raced as a result of the good tempo and when placed under pressure, the gelding commenced to hang in and he was unable to steer the gelding over the concluding stages. After considering the recent record of the filly, it was stood down until the completion of one requalifying trial.
SAN ANTONIO – Broke under pressure approaching the 200 metres. After considering the recent record of the colt, a warning was issued.
CHIEF KENNY – Hung in and contacted the offside sulky wheel of VERBICI approaching the 500 metres. Hung in and contacted the offside sulky wheel of VERBICI soon after entry to the home straight and was checked and broke stride. Post-race swab sample. Driver Joshua Gallagher advised Stewards prior to the declaration of All Clear that he wished to exercise his right to view the replays of the final 350 metres of the event before determining whether to lodge a protest. After having the opportunity to review the films, Driver Joshua Gallagher advised stewards he wished to lodge an objection against the winner, VERBICI alleging interference passing the 350 metres. Chris Lang, the driver of VERBICI immediately upon the commencement of the protest hearing, lodged a counter protest against the second placegetter CHIEF KENNY alleging interference passing the 500 metres where VERBICI sustained a flat offside sulky tyre when CHIEF KENNY hung in and contacted the offside sulky wheel. After taking evidence from Driver Joshua Gallagher, the driver of CHIEF KENNY and Chris Lang the driver of VERBICI, it was established that soon after entry to the home straight CHIEF KENNY hung in and contacted the offside sulky wheel of VERBICI where at the same point that runner had shifted up the track marginally. After considering the evidence stewards believed that whilst VERBICI had shifted away from the marker pegs marginally prior to CHIEF KENNY contacting its offside sulky wheel, they felt the main reason for the interference suffered by CHIEF KENNY was as a result of its own racing manners where it hung down the track and therefore could not be satisfied that the interference sustained by CHIEF KENNY could largely be attributed to VERBICI and dismissed the protest. Given the protest lodged 2nd vs 1st was dismissed, Stewards were not required to hear the protest in respect of the interference at the 500 metres. All clear was given on the judges’ numbers of 7 – 5 – 2 – 8. A warning was issued to CHIEF KENNY as a result of its racing manners.
KYVALLEY DIABLO – Pre-race blood sample. Broke stride free of interference passing the 1200 metres. Hung in and broke stride approaching the 500 metres. After considering the recent record of the gelding, it was stood down until the completion of one requalifying trial.
VERBICI – Pre-race blood sample. Worked forward to the lead passing the 1100 metres. Sustained a flat offside sulky tyre passing the 500 metres when CHIEF KENNY hung in and contacted the offside wheel of VERBICI. Sulky was contacted again passing the 350 metres when CHIEF KENNY hung in. Withstood protest. Post-race swab sample.
RACE 8 – NUTRIEN EQUINE 3YO TROT NSW FINAL – 1609 metres
IM DREAMING – Slow to begin.
LONELY ROAD – Broke stride free of interference passing the 250 metres. After considering the recent record of the gelding, it was stood down for a period of 10 days and the completion of two requalifying trials.

RACE 9 – NUTRIEN EQUINE 4&5YO TROT NSW FINAL – 1609 metres
DONNIE GAL – Driver Dean Cernovskis pleaded guilty to a charge under Rule 163(1)(a)(iii) for causing interference, in that passing the 200 metres he permitted his runner to shift wider on the track when not sufficiently clear of MAXIMUS MERIDIUS which was racing to his outside causing the offside sulky wheel of DONNIE GAL to make contact with the near side hind leg of MAXIMUS MERIDIUS and causing that runner to break stride. After considering the recent record of Mr Cernovskis, in addition to his guilty plea, his licence to drive in races was suspended for a period of 21 days to commence immediately.
SAN JUAN MOUNTAIN – Post-race swab sample.
MAXIMUS MERIDIUS – Pre-race blood sample. Checked and broke stride passing the 200 metres when DONNIE GAL was shifted wider on the track causing MAXIMUS MERIDIUS to make contact with the offside sulky wheel of that runner. Prior to the declaration of All Clear, co-trainer Dean McDowell advised stewards that he wished to view the films of the final 200 metres to determine whether he should lodge a protest. After having the opportunity to view the films, Mr McDowell elected not to exercise his right. Further, Stewards considered whether Driver Lleyton Green had met his obligations to immediately restrain MAXIMUS MERIDIUS once it broke stride to ensure it didn’t maintain or gain ground to the detriment of any other runner. After consideration, Stewards were satisfied Mr Green had met his obligations in accordance with Rule 154(1) and that the horse had not maintained or gained ground in accordance with Rule 155(1) and therefore issued the All Clear on the judges’ numbers of 4 – 2 – 1 – 3/5 (DH). A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding revealed a superficial laceration to the left hind leg coronet band.
MALIBUU – Pre-race blood sample. Post-race swab sample.
SEBASTIANS WAITING – Out of position at the start despite the efforts of Driver Chris Svanosio. After considering the recent record of the gelding, it will continue to be placed outside the mobile barrier draw. Broke stride free of interference passing the 350 metres. Paced momentarily after breaking stride before returning to a trot. After considering the recent record of the gelding, it was stood down until the completion of one requalifying trial.
