MAC THUNDER – Co-trainers DA & KL McDowell were fined $50 under Rule 210 for the late driving notification of J Meikle as the driver of the gelding. Driver J Meikle was questioned in relation to his decision racing down the back straight on the final occasion to direct his drive from a two-wide position to a peg line position, when there appeared an opportunity to shift wider into clear racing room. Mr Meikle added that once BUZZ BOMB improved past him three wide it appeared the runner in which he was trailing, KIKI MEISTER, became under pressure and that he would be able to shift inwards and past that runner. Mr Meikle further stated that at that time it appeared that the leader, SLYX NZ, was travelling better than KIKI MEISTER and that runner would drop off and then allow MAC THUNDER to be shifted wider on the track. However, after initially losing some ground when the speed of the race quickened KIKI MEISTER, maintained its position to the outside of MAC THUNDER, resulting in Mr Meikle being held up behind SLYX NZ rounding the final turn and in the early stages of the home straight. In assessing the way in which MAC THUNDER finished the race off over the concluding stages and that the panel felt that the driving tactics of Mr Meikle did not affect the finishing position of MAC THUNDER, Stewards recorded the comments.
