Driver M Rue was questioned on his tactics over the final 800 metres in particular if there was an opportunity to shift wider when passing the 700 metres when LUCKY JESS had improved to his outside then the gelding was held up for clear racing room until the final 250 metres. Mr Rue stated there was an opportunity to shift wider at the 700 metres prior to LUCKY JESS shifting to its outside but considering the gelding had done some work in the early stages of the event and not feeling comfortable throughout and believed racing three wide from the 700 metres would have been detrimental to the gelding. He further stated although being held up for clear racing room the gelding only finished the race off moderately when obtaining clear running.
